Most family homes I know in Germany are plastered brick houses†. Both exterior as well as interior walls are constructed using (different kinds of) bricks. Wooden constructions are definitely very rare and more a fashion thing than anything

I’m not sure whether they really are blowing up more stuff? Maybe someone should check that myth? There were some really awful myths this year (I hated the Green Hornet show and that other show where they promoted some other stupid show on

The nice thing is that it is no problem to test Newton’s first law of motion again and again and again. If you do it right you will always get the same results. That’s what Mythbusters is all about. It’s not about rigorous mathematical demo

“Their copyright infringement is very clear.” Wrong translation, wrong statement or different laws? Other than that: Boring.

Well, one of the reasons to look is certainly to figure out what kinds of solar systems are typical. Are all solar systems like our solar system? What are the differences? How common are rocky planets? Its mission is to give us a more detai

If you look at the diagram for the habitable zone in our own solar system you can see that Nasa would class both Mars and Venus as habitable planets. They already place pretty generous bounds around the habitable zone. Given the very real p

Those are some nice technical details and it’s right to correct them when someone gets them wrong. They ultimately, however, don’t matter†. If scrolling on one device makes me want to throw the device at the wall while on another device I d

If Carrier IQ on iOS only collects information about calls and location data during those calls and if it is turned off by default and if Apple is explicit about the data they collect† then there is no problem. It seems obvious to me that c

Your comment made me look for a video of the setup process. The relevant step is at 2:40: http://vimeo.com/24789410 Turns out there is a default and it defaults to being turned off. You can immediately tap next and Diagnostics will be tur

As far as I know you are explicitly asked whether you want to enable Diagnostics & Usage when you first set up the device. (It’s one of the steps in the setup process.) I don’t know what the default setting for that is, though.

If they knew they wouldn’t be hedging. They don’t know, they just think it’s very unlikely. What this tells you is that HTC (claims they) didn’t do anything with WP7 phones.

Again: Does that matter? What – specifically – is the problem? Ignore the word ownership and its definition for a second: Is the amount of stuff you can do with files compared to CDs really a problem? It’s clear to me what I can and cannot

So then you don’t. Does it matter, though? I don’t think so. It’s pretty clear what you can and cannot do as compared to CDs. It’s a non-issue.

With the music I buy in the iTMS I can do most of the things I can do with a CD I buy in a store somewhere. Some things I can’t do. That’s all. It’s not dramatic.

That’s very interesting. Wouldn’t it be very easy for Apple to break the app with an OS update? You would almost expect that an app stops working after so many OS updates (not because someone purposefully made it stop working but rather co

That seems unlikely. I think there already was a tethering app which Apple pulled from the Store but didn’t pull from devices. I do think that Apple is serious when they say that their ability to remotely pull apps is reserved for malware.
