Starting in page 16, there is a section called "Do we want a guard keyword?" that talks about this. They give an example showing that deferring to the end of the containing block is possible without the guard keyword, although it&

Reading the PDF, I got the impression that the main thing in favor of using a guard keyword is that it would allow it to be implemented as a library. That way it wouldn't require changes to compilers and it might also be possible to ad

There is one important part of taxonomy that is not arbitrary, however. The classification should be hierarchical, reflecting the evolution of the tree of life.

I'm aware of that. The problem is that you have to manually add all the keywords yourself. AFAIK, there isn't an easy way to import a large list of curated keywords like the DDG bang list.

One thing I always wished for is if there were a way to use duckduckgo bang searches in my browser without sending them through DDG. But apparently it's harder to implement than it sounds.

For recent versions of git I'd suggest using "git switch" and "git restore" instead of git checkout. It avoids much of the confusion from the checkout command, which does very different things depending on what flag

I'm not sure I see what is the problem here. Gluing together pieces of C code is one of the main reasons to use a scripting language like Python.

You can still give a name to the interface. However, interfaces apply to modules, not to types. In Ocaml you'd say "this module implements the Comparable interface" while in an OO languague you'd say "this type is a

It's not exactly the same thing because, for example, there is no subtyping or inheritance. In Ocaml you don't say that "type T1 is an Orderable". However, it does serve a similar purpose. For example, if you want to cre

Thanks, but I don't think that is quite what I want. What I mean by "cactus" history is that the feature branches have a linear history that starts at the tip of the master branch but when we merge them back into master we st

If you squint, this is basically what a JIT compiler such as PyPy does. The compiled code has a fast hot path that assumes that every branch and dynamic dispatch will work the way you expect it to, and if it doesn't then it falls back
