Not much point in keeping the "3." around when we don't expect a "4.0" version to happen in the foreseeable future.

I love that they are making the compose key feature more discoverable. It's the best way to type strange characters like å, ř or ©.

Those couple of years where the carbon is in the form of methane instead of CO2 have a big impact because methane is a much stronger greenhouse gas.

Is that 69.3 million asking price a reference to something or is it just a humorously large number with no special meaning?

More importantly, it's directly referencing the contents of Dijkstra's essay and arguing that "go" is bad for the same reasons that "goto" is. In most of the other considered harmful blog posts the title is jus

One of my favorite things about Shellcheck is that the error messages come with a link to a wiki page about the problem. Does anyone know other programs that have a similar approach to error messages? https://github.com/koal

If we're doing that then we may as well avoid the exponentiation with `lookup_table[n % 15]`.

I think the parent poster would classify that kind of web app under as a "short running thing". Sure, the application process might live for a long time but the requests are short-lived and independent of each other.

You can assume that all regexes are "anchored". They match the entire word, not just a substring.

It has to be fake words. It's possible to see this because some of the words have to contain things like "cdd", "rrp" and "rxo", which aren't part of any real words.

The biggest takeaway for me is that I learned about the existence of some utilities that I had never known were there. Specially "factor" and "tsort".

The main thing that changed was not the project length, but that the projects are now supposed to be part-time (4 hours per day) instead of full time (8 hours per day). I'm curious to see how it's going to work out. Halving the st

I also had a similar first impression from reading the name of the project. I thought it was going to be related to standardizing Ruby implementations / the Ruby language itself.

Can you bounds check dynamically sized arrays? For example, a function that receives the size as a separate argument? double f(double *xs, int n){ return xs[g()]; }

We wouldn't need to go all the way to dependent types, which would guarantee at compile-time that array accesses are safe. Even if all the bounds checking happened at run-time it would still be tremendously helpful.

The surprising part is that sscanf calls strlen behind the scenes.

The bug is more devious than that. The code looks linear at a glance and the culprit is that sscanf is actually O(N) on the length of the string. How many people would expect that?
