In another blog post, linked from this one, Bruce says that the XKCD scheme of stringing together a series of words is no longer safe: > Modern password crackers combine different words from their dictionaries. This is why the oft-cited

This is what I do for the desktop apps for my home desktop: If a package is in the Fedora repository, I favor getting it from there. If it is not, my first choice is a flatpak from Flathub. I find it much less painful than downloading RPM p

The shell ought to be able to help with that. There's no need to remember if it's --conf or --config if you can press --conf<tab>. One of the things I like about Fish is that by default it can tab-complete program options an

A blockchain wouldn't solve the chain of trust problem, of how do you know that a given public key actually belongs to Joe Biden. The problem that blockchains solve, of distributed consensus, is a different problem.

There's enormous amounts of evidence that ivermectin doesn't work. If did work, we wouldn't have over 600,000 dead here in Brazil. A sizeable portion of the population, encouraged by our goverment, made use of ivermectin as a

Vaccines are dirt cheap. Just the cost of the covid test to diagnose covid (which is required before the appropriate anti-viral may be prescribed) is probably going to be more than the cost of a vaccine. > Would the current pandemic situ

Here in Brazil we've had over 3500 deaths from people under 18, including over 320 babies under 1 year old. There have been cities where sick children were not able to get medical treatment because the pediatric ICU was over capacity.

By this logic, a buffer overrun exploit would not actually be an exploit, because it's just a pointer that goes up or down according to certain rules.

The most impressive example I've ever seen of this kind of compiler cleverness is the following function from the "convoluted isEven" competition: bool isEven(int n) { return n == 0 || !isEven(n + 1); } C
