I'm not convinced that the population of El Salvador is into it to the same degree that Nayib Bukele is. The whole thing sounds very fishy.

All known cases of post vaccine myocarditis were mild and did not lead to permanent damage. Also, myocarditis can also be caused byviral infections. We don't know the exact numbers, because it is hard to diagnose myocarditis if the per

I wonder how it deals with the lack of a garbage collector in C and C++. I could only find a single paragraph about it in the language reference and it doesn't seem to explain how to free memory in C, or how to deal with circular refer

To be pedantic... the musttail attribute goes in the return statement with the function call, not on the function definition.

The argument Theranos gave is that it would allow collecting blood from a fingerprick (which would not require a trained professional, and because people are afraid of needles).

I was surprised at how easy it was to use. I was expecting it to be difficult, as is often the case for software that is packed with features for advanced users, but it turned out that recording a window is just a matter of pressing a butto

I'm trying to remember the citation, but I remember seeing a presentation once from someone who studied this and they said that the thing that worked best was a hybrid approach: use structured diff at the top level of the program (modu

The human-designated dose of ivermectin is usually a one-time dose. One of the problems is that not only have some people use non-human doses, but there are also many who are on a continuous regimen of ivermectin. That can also be dangerous

By the way, does anyone here know how Python compiles the match statements under the hood? Are they converted into something equivalent to if-elif, which tries each option in sequence? Or does it do something more clever?

One thing I don't like about goto is that it allows the creation of irreducible control flow. Makes all kinds of optimizations and program analysis more difficult. When I have the chance, I advocate for more well behaved alternatives s

In my experience, currying is problematic in dynamically typed languages. If you accidentally pass less arguments than you should, then you'll only detect the error much later, when you try to use the result and find that it is a parti

The basic structure of a phase 3 vaccine efficacy trial is that you give the vaccine to half of the volunteers and placebo to the other half. Then you you wait for them to naturally be exposed to COVID. When a pre-determined number of infec

Another important thing to ask is the risk of myocarditis due to covid, vs the risk of myocarditis due to the vaccine.

That is a misleading headline. Most of these reported cases of myocarditis are mild and did not require hospitalization, so it's kind of an apples to oranges comparison.

That distinction isn't as important for evaluating vaccine efficacy. It wants to measure if the person was infected, not if the person is infectious.

Depends on the study design. Infections are detected by doing a PCR covid test. However, different studies might have different criteria for exactly who gets tested.

The vaccines that are already distributed were distributed considering the original plan of only two doses per person. More vaccines would need to be ordered to get enough for a third dose.

I think the first efficacy data is going to be about preventing infections. Data about preventing deaths will take longer to obtain.

If GPLv4 were more restrictive, people would still be able to use the software under the terms of gplv2 or gplv3. The scenario where FSF goes "rogue" would be if gplv4 became more permissive, e.g. if it stopped being a copyleft li
