Haha that was me, np ;-) Shame some low-life scribbled over it. A chat box would be nice, yeah!

Nicely unbiased. Not sure about the title, though, since the article is (quite rightly) more about why not to use XML.

Isn't it up to the platform to give web applications the "native" look and feel, though? If an application is just standard HTML controls, it can't be difficult for (eg) iOS to make them look like iOS controls, surely? If mobile webkit is a

I find both Java and the Android APIs ugly, overengineered and more importantly - boring ! I'd rather write a webapp in HTML/CSS/Javascript than a native Android application any day. What I'd like to see is applications for things like And

The other data stored with your searches could be way easier to track you from than your IP address: http://panopticlick.eff.org/ It would (theoretically) be easy to determine which searches are all by the same person using data like that

Crap, I think I deleted my last comment by accident. I'm not logged into my google account either, that's strange! Here's what it shows for me: http://ledev.org/~udp/categories.png

Ugh. What's with the caps lock? This is incredibly hard to read (for me, at least). It just looks offensive. This is going to be far less effective than a nice, polite feature comparison would be.

Hmm. Although this seems like a good idea at first, sometimes I'm searching for something obscure and I actually do find the answer on one of those annoying websites. I can't help thinking it's probably more useful to see all the results

Whereabouts in the north of England? What are you doing here? ;-) I thought most of the north was a relatively hacker-free zone.

There'd be a lot of code duplication if every snippet of JS needed to include, for example, all the browser-specific hacks that jQuery does, and all the DOM traversal, etc. It's much cleaner if all the solutions use the same common framewor

I think you're on to something. This must be how the IE developers get things done!

Very true - there have been times when I've woken up hours late and found my alarm deactivated, with absolutely no recollection of turning it off. The things one can do while asleep are amazing..!

This article is a coincidence for me - since I started working from home full time, I've been going to bed at 4 - 5 AM and getting up at 2 PM every day, but I actually managed to pull off 11 PM - 6:30 AM for the last few days. I've been muc

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but - as interested as I genuinely am in learning to fly one day, why is it that so many flying-related articles tend to crop up on HN over the months?

I'd no idea this existed - quite interesting to flick through the source. I wonder how it benchmarks compared to Apache or Lighttpd?

It'd work on any domain you like, but you need to run it on your own system. I bet this could be used to write some very interesting Javascript-aware crawlers/scrapers.

The popup with the list of class members (I think XCode calls it "Code Sense") tends not to work if your code is too complicated. I know that sounds like a silly reason not to use an IDE, but I surprise myself with how much I miss it.

Will it do C++? I still haven't found a good C++ editor (with class member autocomplete popups and such) - at least, nothing that compares to Visual Studio over in the Windows world.

A friend had me look at a server that had been compromised by SSH bruteforce a few months ago. The intruder was using it as an IRC bouncer, and he was a romanian named Alexino. I actually found him on the IRC network, and he tried to get me
