Anecdotally: I picked up Okasaki's book on Purely Functional Data Structures as a way of learning FP (to learn Haskell). All the examples were written in Standard ML, so I then started picking up SML. I heard that OCaml was more widely

There is something that feels disingenuous about taking a conscientious position against email, and then saying that you do actually use email, just by way of a "human spam filter" instead of an automated one. With that said, I ce

Yeah, Ionide is pretty good. I personally use vim-fsharp because Atom is flaky and VSCode doesn't have a good vim emulator yet, and vim-fsharp does the trick well enough for most of my usages. Apropos of nothing, I recognize you from #

If you don't mind reading a paper, there's a paper on it that actually is readable instead of just all whitepapery and overly-theoretical: http://arxiv.org/pdf/1512.01895.pdf

The only objections I remember hearing were from Apple. And implementing something that is in the standardization process with the TC39 still doesn't strike me as "custom extensions".

Yeah? And what "custom extensions" does Chrome push? NaCl is almost dead, to be replaced by the standard WebAssembly. Everything else is a standard ES2015 spec that Chrome, Edge, and Firefox have implemented (to varying degrees) a

So what you're saying is, you're cool with discrimination, so long as it's not against you. So when someone decides to hold a dev conference but chooses to disallow any gay/lesbian developers, is that also totally okay?

Kotlin's got more "noise" around it lately though, so I suspect adoption will be quicker. Also, GMC is bigger than Red Hat, and while Telegram is smaller for sure, it's got a decent amount of weight to it. Both use Kotli

Yeah, but that's a case where "var" is probably the wrong choice anyways, because of the non-obvious "human type resolution" -- i.e. if I'm a human reading this code, I can't obviously tell the type FooDao

The one advantage to be gained is that users wouldn't control indentation characters -- meaning that the editor could be opinionated about one or the other, and the user wouldn't need to worry about accidentally messing it up.
