I'm sure it's better now, but Rhapsody lost me by having _the worst web player I've ever experienced_. It's hard to overstate how bad it was. I just can't bring myself to go back, even though I realize they've worked on it. It was so . ba

Have there been any articles/studies about what gender relations are like in other equally "divided" industries? I'm wondering if it's related to a certain type of person naturally attracted to software/tech, or if it can develop naturally

I haven't studied it too carefully so I'm working off impressions here, but I don't think Android zoomed-to-content the way iOS does. For instance, when loading Hacker News, the initial view would be very zoomed out, so I could just barely

No, it's not. I can see the notification just fine, but if I click on it to answer, I have no one-click way to get back to the app I was in before responding to the notification.

I'm having the opposite reaction. I find myself fighting against iOS most of the time. The browser zooms to odd proportion on most pages, and I really miss the double-tap to zoom for one-handed browsing. Reading a notification, and having n

You know, as a recent convert, I still haven't seen the clearly better app quality that everyone's been talking about. Maybe it's just the apps I use, but I generally find the quality to be about the same, overall. Android's system preferen

Honeycomb is a tablet-only OS, so that market share isn't really relevant when talking about Ice Cream Sandwich. The Gingerbread market share would be a better indicator.

You weren't, really. The reality we have today is far removed from that video. Like, really far removed.

I share the sentiment, but am wary of thinking of battery powered cars as a panacea. The real problem is the design of our cities, and our lack of funding for public transit. In my city, our bus service is partially funded by a _gas tax_. T

Don't want to argue the logic of suicide too much, but isn't that a self-selecting audience of people that didn't plan well, and hence "failed"? There are plenty of people that take their own life that spend quite a lot of time thinking abo

No argument about the interface. In fact, I'd say most of the interfaces on Roku leave something to be desired (especially Hulu!). I'm basing my catalog comparison on the fact that I found most of the things I watch with Netflix also on Ama

Free streaming of certain movies/TV shows on Amazon with a Prime membership is arguably a better value. Selection seems to be mostly the same as Netflix, though device penetration is far more shallow. Still works on my Roku, though.

I'm the opposite. I like all of my OS X dev tools (navicat, textmate/macvim (I know, gvim...)/sublime text/github for os x/things), and it's a much more usable OS overall for me. The parts I don't like, compiling libraries, running servers,

Interesting. Well, I don't normally have to push any large files around, mostly python source code, so it's worked well for me. Will keep an eye out.

Vagrant should auto-mount the directory containing the Vagrantfile as /vagrant in your guest OS. I normally add my Vagrantfile directly to my git repository, checkout the git repository on my OS X machine, and edit the files directly on the

I've found it's pretty seamless. You're editing files on your local dev machine, which vagrant auto-mounts in the guest OS. Ports are automatically forwarded to your host dev machine, so my workflow is literally exactly the same as if I dev

Although I take issue with trotting out single lines out of context, I'd say that this is in line with that. The "one -- preferably only one -- obvious way to do it" is to make everything a module. The confusion stems from not knowing how t

You see it as an indictment, I see it as a strength. It's a very pythonic way to handle things, and while I was confused by a lot of deployment options when first learning Django, it was only because it was also my introduction to Python. I

I used to work solely on a remote Dev box, using ExpanDrive to edit locally. I would have an ssh session open to run commands/debug/shell. I've recently starting moving towards local Vagrant instances. I don't like dealing with local librar

I've been using Protovis, and my main complaint about D3 is that it brings you closer to the DOM. I suppose that's the point, and is generally a strength, but it doesn't give you a nice abstraction layer for cross-vector-language bindings (
