Doesn't matter, the nice thing about software patents is that somebody somewhere could have a patent on using the number '2' in a video codec. And you never know until they get bought out by your enemy.

You can enter a password to reset it. But you can always just start Windows in safe mode and uninstall the app! For real security Truecrypt your hard drive and store the key file on the USB key - in this case, do NOT lose the usb key!

Depends on utilisation. If you own a cluster and are able to keep it busy 24x7 then it pays off pretty quickly. Amazon have to have enough spare idle capacity to handle unexpected customer loads and make a profit - you are paying for this.
