The money was given out as a lump sum with I believe a 3-year deadline to use it or lose it. With those restrictions it pretty much had to be spent on capital-intensive projects that could be done in 3 years. Athletic facilities fit that re

It is also fitting to mention that Kandinsky very likely has synesthesia, where he could hear/taste/etc colors and shapes. Kandinksy’s works looks the way they do partly due to the “sound” or other qualities —- that most (all?) vi

I am a Scripps customer. Their prices are not different than any other healthcare system in the area. They all do this; Scripps just made it more obvious how prices are actually set. And since this has been brought up in the thread: Scripps

Scripps, the hospital in question, is already a non-profit. Their domain even ends in .org! They also have posters asking for donations, and will send mailers asking for donations as well.

The US already spends twice as much on healthcare (around $1.5T) for existing public programs than it does on national defense (around $718B). Source: https://datalab.usaspending.gov/americas-finance-guide/spend...

There seems to be some selective amnesia about how great mom & pop businesses were. People drove an hour out of their way to Walmart because it was that much better . Not just the prices, but also selection and return policies (Walmart

The $900 felony rule keeps being brought up on HN, but the felony amount for Texas is $2500. Clearly something other than the misdemeanor/felony classification is at play.

My point is that its not as simple as concluding the US wastes money and is ineffective at teaching. The schools in the US do a lot more than instruction, and work with a different set of students. We certainly could learn from what works a

This is typically true for the elderly who can take care of themselves or require minimal help. Once you need round the clock dementia care, it is more than extended family can provide — unless one or more adults take themselves out of the

The felony theft limit for Texas is $2,500, but their retail establishments do not report massive shoplifting sprees. Clearly there is more than misdemeanor/felony classification at work here.

The strategy is extremely effective, especially for high-priced but rarely purchased items like dishwashers, cars, flooring, etc. Consider: one of the hardest parts about advertising is figuring out when someone is ready to buy the product.
