I don't understand the modern hate for OOP. Perhaps a bad mentor or inheritance nazi. Inheritance can be thrown in the trash but otherwise OOP is just a collection of related functions where you can have shared data to work with while

I would up vote you more if I could. There is a weird group think happening on HN where you can't even question the quarantine measures. It's knee jerk virtue signalling and not data driven.

This has has always been my concern. How many people have died because they couldn't get life saving elective procedures? How many deaths will be attributed to the economic slow down? As a counterpoint though I must also ask: How many

First, these are NOT normal work from home times. This is currently the worst time to experience what work from home is truely like. Second, if your job requires a lot of face to face interaction them WFH will NOT be a good fit. Third, if y

I built a popular tool in the same niche [1]. I think your over complicating it. I got decision fatigue just trying to test it. [1] https://easydecisionmaker.com/

I recently discovered that the best way for me to communicate over Zoom when speaking is to not even look at the screen. I'll stare off into the distance and just focus on my words and thoughts. Video and audio lag seems to short circu

So long as structure and design overlap there will always be some inescapable coupling. The choice is deciding which one should master over the other.

Why aren't headlights and windshields polarized? [1] According to this it may be a chicken or the egg regulations problem as well as some trade-offs that may not be viable. [1] https://www.quora.com/Why-arent-headlights

Fair point and I don't necessarily disagree. I don't like the consequences of superdeterminism, just playing devil's advocate. If we exchange simple ratios for fractals we could have compute based infinite precision. Precisio

But it is. Ratios can be infinity precise, albeit computationally intensive, but a computational universe has nothing else to do but compute!

This always seemed like the easiest way to explain superdeterminism. It's a universe where the laws of physics do not permit you to generate a truly random number.

I'd like to see the data on carbon footprint reductions associated with WFH. Also traffic related deaths would imaginably be reduced.

No one ever mentions concrete production [1] when ecological impact comes up. It's often absent from all analysis too. Like these poured structures just appeared one day. [1] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environ

I recently built an HN client [1] to scratch an itch and try out the HN API. It caches data to SQL and redis. It has never been shared and I only use it personally so expect lots of bugs. I may open source the code after I clean it up. [1]

The cat is out of the bag so to speak. On a personal level all we can do is hope we recover well and quick, if and when we are exposed. Every day you breath in millions of viruses. You don't die because you have an immune system that h

I wince every time I use application code to do what I know SQL can do faster and easier. ORMs are nice but it's often impossible to translate performant SQL into the ORM's API. SQL is just so concise.

So true. I'd almost consider it a kind of premature optimization. Trying to nail down DRY abstractions not too early but not too late is often tricky but concern over it probably puts you in good company.

The TL;DR; Initial estimates of mortality rate are all over the place due to uncertainty in the data sets. That said, the best estimate at the moment is around 2-3% and is subject to change as more data comes in.
