I can relate to this. Anyone who has ever had to take a family members car away from them as they get older can as well. When someone has driven most of their life, losing the ability to drive can be a very difficult. To them its losing the

Yes, that's is a very interesting point. I would think that, long term, the only manual control a self driving car really needs is a "kill switch." How long will it be after self-driving tech goes mainstream until people simp

I've been porting a larger application from JS to Dart, and I can repeat a lot of what Seth says in this article. The experience has been generally very good. While porting I also discovered a couple bugs that existed in the original c

Just really poor communication in regards to status, it blew past the 2013 release window without any status update from the developer. The product is great, just feels poorly managed. It leaves me with an unsure feeling in regards to the

Its got a _long_ ways to go before sublime has anything to worry about. The plugins and language support Sublime has is its real asset. I'd be happy to make the switch when the feature parity is there, because I'm not too happy wi

I was excited for that. I've worked in languages that had an `is` operator, and it can result in very readable code. Eg: if list is Array { } Much nicer than: if Array.isArray(list) { }

I can't see the use case of this. If it was editable after saving then that would make sense, but this is just static. And being static, you're better off just bundling it with the app. Unless I'm missing something? Nice pres

I had to enable it from chrome://flags for it to work. I'm using Chrome unstable, it doesn't appear to be in the stable branch on Linux yet.

To be honest, its been a long time (years) since I've given it a serious try. I had problems in the top bar, it wouldn't start up properly, often freezing, and I would get errors frequently trying to access it. I don't know i

I'm one of the heavy users of this. It integrates with all my devices better than other options. Google Still hasn't released a Linux client and the dropbox app has been very flakey for me in Ubuntu. I've set my phone camera

That's a great point. I'd happily pay full price for a technical book if it meant the authors received more. Technical authors hardly receive fair compensation for the hours they put in already.

Thank you! Edit: I can't find it. I see I can disable the cache completely, but that's not really what I want. Its nice to only disable it when the dev tools are open. I don't want to have to go to advance settings and clear

I love all the work the Firefox team is doing here over the last year. Things have improved so much, its terrific. These are the things Firefox needs before I could start to consider it as a primary development tool: - Performance analyzati

I can always tell when a designer is working on a large screen, this feels very awkward on my 13 inch laptop. There is just a little too much vertical height. I keep wanting to scroll to see the whole thing. Very nice idea though, well done

I'm not a big fan of the change. In theory there is nothing wrong with the new system, but I generally think HN has one of the best online communities around. Overall the average comment is polite, intelligent, and generally worth read

Exactly. This is the problem I have with the hype around the promises API, and if you're a Dart developer, Futures. They claim to solve "callback hell" but they can't. Callback hell is the result of poor programming styl

Golang has great JSON support that I think could translate to Dart. Any overhead could be minimized through compiler support so we don't have to rely on the current mirror functionality. I think that would be a nice balance between wha

This decision is potentially very big. How can Chrome, a browser that has so actively pushed HTML5 forward, reject a component of the spec? I mean IE supports WebGL for crying out loud, I wasn't sure they ever would, but even they'

I think for many people its a moral choice. It doesn't mater how it affects MediaTemple as a service, they'll just plain refuse to support the parent company, and good on them for that.
