As an American both right and left leaning news outlets don’t seem trustworthy. I find right wing news particularly annoying as it seems to amount to anger spewing and name calling in many cases. Left wing outlets are no angels either and p

I imagine this will be front page. It would be nice if the link could be changed to a non-paywalled site. I recommend The Guardian though I’m mostly indifferent: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jul/08&#

I think you are reading a lot into the development of an app. For anything the government does it seems like folks are ready to pop out and say, “the resources would be better spent on X.” Maybe true but I’d argue doing slightly wrong thing

I think it’s merely a style as you mention in your first sentence. Some people who speak using the objective style are just being loose with language. They still realize what they are saying is subjective. I talk like this even when I'

I like this take. I think I agree with it, though I wonder if there is a limit. For example, if warming gets bad enough that there are obvious issues causing millions, would it be enough for folks to realize, "the negative consequences

It’s a double edged sword and can depend on the question. For example, I’ve gotten a few “brain teaser” questions which are just dumb. On the other hand I’ve also had an interviewer in one of these loops sit me at a computer and build a sma

Dan Carlin has a podcast episode in "Hardcore History" where he describes the US as a "schizophrenic giant" (though I think he is quoting someone). Essentially he describes the US as being ineffective at making decisions

Incredible, your views are very close to my own. I slightly disagree on encapsulation in that my view is more like, “don’t let it get in the way”. I think this view on encapsulation makes much more sense from the data-oriented side though.

In my opinion, America not being okay with social safety nets is not equivalent to shop lifting being okay. It seems to me either: * Americans care about shoplifting but not social safety nets and it would mean that society has implicitly d

Agreed. Reflecting on the list, many aspects have to do with teamwork and cooperation. I’d go so far as to say the real 10x folks should strive for is 10xing their coworkers. If a 10x engineers is as good as 10 engineers, a 10x team of 5 ma

Why not just write it as SoA to begin with? I think the library is cool. It’s cool that this can be done with C++ and it’s cool that someone did it. However, when considering something like this for production I always think, “folks will un

I think folks wanted to maintain that wise policy. Even in the days leading up to the war Ukraine dismissed the fact that Russia would attack as fear mongering. The problem is that Russia has now proven themselves an untrustable party. &quo

Potentially but it’s interesting to consider whether China would honor it. Thinking about it practically I don’t know what benefit they’d get from helping Russia in a full fledged war. Seems unlikely Russia would win and in the worst case -
