While I’ve seen bad technology chosen for projects, it seemed at root more a problem with the people choosing it than the technology itself.

I recommend including links to these within the submission itself. Landing on the game with no context isn’t a great experience. It also isn’t easy to share a link with others this way.

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted because I had this same reaction. I feel like this is good feedback! This submission seems close but is missing the final bit of instruction polish that would really make it click.

I’ve often seen assertions throw exceptions when violated. Users don’t catch exceptions, developers do. Users interact with the software through things like failure pop ups. You’d need to check that there’s a failure to show one, hence retu

That’s interesting. I’d actually consider this a user error because it’s only in the user’s power to fix it. For example: 1. You’d want to display a message that they need a GPU. 2. Call stack information isn’t helpful in diagnosing the iss

You know, I’ve also found this funny. I like the declaration side. I think part of where it misses the mark is the syntax on the caller side. I feel like standard conditionals are enough to handle user errors while the heavy machinery of tr

I always think more languages should support Result… but only to handle expected error states. For example, you may expect that some functions may time out or that a user may attempt an action with an invalid configuration (e.g., malformed

You’re getting downvoted which is unfortunate because I think you make a worthwhile point. Emotionally I disagree with you. It feels like a bully is getting what a bully deserves. Logically, I think you are right though. Crowds just aren’t

The funny bit about it is that the story still holds up to some extent if it’s a lie since the whole thing is about a liar making folks think he’s more credentialed than he really is.

I’ve felt that leadership roles at tech companies tend to converge around the same goal, “make software happen.” Different roles have different expertise in that goal but that’s what they’re here for. That doesn’t mean, “write all the softw

It isn’t clear that TSMC is all the special sauce here. The Apple chips are uniquely good in my experience so far. Maybe another chip has similar power/performance but: 1. I haven’t seen real-world examples showing that 2. It might not

I actually don’t know if it’s good or bad for Intel. I could see an embargo or tariffs on TSMC chips… but is Intel better with competition or worse? Do other countries care as much as the US? They may buy TSMC anyways.

I get your point but Strix Halo isn’t Intel. Maybe another company can close the gap but it still doesn’t bode well for Intel.

I don’t know. I feel like we could also make claims about Apple hardware that isn’t out yet. “M4 does not represent Apple’s radically different M6 processor.” Intel may get faster but the competition should also be expected to get faster.

I have a brand new Core i9-14900F in an Alienware Aurora R16. I also have a brand new M4 Max in a 16” MacBook Pro. The M4 is ~40% faster on almost every test I’ve run (I’ll be sharing raw data in a blog soon). The M4 is faster on battery th

It doesn’t seem all bad to me. I feel like gaming got into this pattern of pumping titles with $$$ mainly going to marketing and fidelity but not fun. Meanwhile, Expedition 33 comes out from a 30 person team and kicks the industries ass. I’

Because we know what the value is without AI. I’ve been in the industry for about ten years and others have been in it longer than I have. Folks have enough experience to know what good looks like and to know what bad looks like.

I agree and I’m surprised more people don’t get this. Bad behaviors aren’t suddenly okay because AI makes them easy. If you are wasting time you may be value negative to a business. If you are value negative over the long run you should be

I’d say more testable. I haven’t seen any metrics on amount of bugs vs composability of functions though. There are metrics on amount of bugs vs LoC. I have a personal preference towards the “more functions” approach too but I want to separ

My feelings on LoC really depend on what you want to measure. LoC tends to correlate with # bugs. A 100-line function is probably going to have more bugs than a 20-line function that does the same thing. I don’t think functions inherently n
