I highly doubt Red Hat will ever touch ZFS. Oracle and Red Hat have a very tenuous relationship. I hope Red Hat will support bcachefs though. I think it's the most promising alternative FS.

Docker for Mac uses Xhyve, a hypervisor ported from FreeBSD. It could be more performant than Virtualbox but I have not tested them side by side.

I see a roughly 66% performance hit on docker for Mac in most metrics. Not a deal breaker but I prefer to do development on Linux as well for that reason.

Extremely cheap hydro power at around 0.01-0.02 USD/KWh. China has more hydro power than customers in a lot of areas. Labor and regulatory costs are a huge factor as well.

Not an automatic update but it is in the standard repo as linux-image-aws. But new AMIs come with the AWS kernel by default.

FWIW, Azure disables hyperthreading on their servers. 1 core = 1 real core.
