Also note that nearly all reviews for Microsoft are written by some kind of "managers"... The place seems to be composed almost entirely of them.

Perfect. It should decline even more, because lets face it: big percentage of CS grads aren't really "into it". The article points at year 2000 as the peak of CS enrollments, same year when I met an ex-taxi driver and the history teacher bo

After staring for 10 seconds at "Loading" thingie I gave up and hit "Back". I live in 2008 with dual core machine equipped with 3GB of RAM and hooked to the Internet via 8MBit fiber connection. I don't need to wait even a second for anythin

Returning value types by value (structures) is a compiler bug? C++ and D both try to be binary-compatible with C, they MUST return a structure by copying it. An excellent article, but this little example was weird. I haven't done any seriou

I'm getting sick of this SV crap... Hello?! Since when recording a moving picture on tape is breaking news? And what does "tight community" and "internet" have to do with it?

PDFs are very nice on Gnome too. The default reader is super-fast and PDFs really feel like nicely formatted text files. PDF simply rocks. Why, oh why, don't they convert everything into PDFs or (better) HTML?! Scribd is solving a real prob

Hmmm, let me get this straight. The author wants a service that allows developers to quickly and programatically convert proprietary format documents (MS Office, etc) to standard easily viewable formats (pdf, flash) for FREE to 'die' becau

I suspect you're underestimating efficiency of both types of engines. Diesels, for instance, are always above 30% and air-compressed should be a lot higher: they don't have an enormous energy loss in a form of heat compared to diesels.

Like your analogy! :) The bigger picture is that we're approaching an energy crisis. That's why gas is getting more expensive, and that is why there is even an interest in these cars to begin with: the message isn't to "separate front end a

Ok, we won't be burning gasoline in a vehicle, we'll be burning it to compress air when refueling. For similar reasons I don't get the fuss about electric "zero-emission" cars. Zero? Like electricity just magically comes out of nowhere...

I am so tired of hearing that email is broken. Mine isn't. It works great. It's faster, more powerful and universal than anything web-based, like Facebook messages. It works on nearly any kind of phone even. Yes, it's overused: my inbox gro

Definitely true for natural languages. English is very pragmatic and "dry" to my ear, perfect for engineering. But I feel like all mainstream programming languages aren't truly "languages", they're mostly dialects of X, where "X" is a fusio

Safari beats FF on a Mac (speed, UI, multi-touch, nicer rendering) while Opera simply destroys it on Linux. But on Windows FF is really sweet: it doesn't feel so terribly slow as it does on Linux and its less-than-perfect look matches Windo

Such an utter lack of understanding of SMS messaging I've rarely seen. Twitter is a joke compared to what it takes to do SMS properly. Not only SMS needs to be persistent, but they also need to be stored and accurately retreived for up to 5

You don't hate ASP.NET, you seem to hate WebForms and for very good reasons. You don't have to use WebForms though, there are other toolkits available. In fact, I built a neat desktop application using ASP.NET stack once - you can embed it

Listen to yourself. You could be speaking Chinese right now with a similar effect. If my dog could understand (and speak) your language, he could have explained why licking his own balls isn't disgusting. He's cool with it.
