Who is a CEO anyway? I have talked to a few business guys and answers varied from "salesman in chief" to "just an administrator with connections". In that regard there is really nothing to hold on to if you are a product guy. The article im

So true, it made me smile because just recently I had a great discussion with a very smart .NET programmer who truly believed that Microsoft's LINQ is a revolution in programming languages. When I explained to him that a similarly weak DSL

I switch between Macbook and Thinkpad/Ubuntu almost daily. Why? Because I get bored on either of them fairly quickly :-) I love both of them, but my vote goes towards Ubuntu/Linux (and I mainly code on ThinkPad) for three reasons: 1. Most h

There is an interesting idea growing bigger and bigger in recent months. Some say that proliferation of feedback-based recommendation engines and machine learning algorithms for predicting "what I may like to read next" is bad for our socie

Most engineers never implement any of those classic CS algorithms or data structures manually since everything is in the libraries these days. Therefore they're in the same boat as you: general knowledge and a couple of books under a hand t

Every time mankind makes a major breakthrough it makes entire families of professions obsolete. This gives us opportunities to move onto more advanced forms of keeping ourselves busy. Most of the time when people ask about "obsolete humans"

Why did you assume web development? Sure, many people here build web sites, but don't forget that such startups still represent a relatively small fraction of total amount of software written. I am involved in two startups and both use C++.

After a year of Ruby programming I am in the middle of learning Python. The language part seems very easy (the "mechanics" of programming process) but "thinking in Python" part suggests that Ruby is a significantly higher level language. On
