@peterjancelis are you even remotely familiar with what you're talking about? It was all legal. Read up.

City wasn't shut down. I really wish people that don't live where would cease making such posits. I went to work. Ate lunch out. Bought groceries. Why shutdown mass transit? So he could not easily flee. It is now known he was hiding within

Because the newbies will work for less. They will work longer hours (to learn the ropes.) They don't have families and health issues, so they are cheaper to employ as well. They are less aware of their rights and have less long term outlook

The last thing the world needs is more bubble charts. I'd like once to see one in a true scientific paper. Bubble charts are just like dowsing rods. That's why marketers and managers love them. They'll show you whatever you're looking for.

And for most corporations like mine to stop blocking websockets. What do you mean let some odd port through the firewall?

Who ever said UUID's were random? They are sufficiently structured to be globally UNIQUE. That's the contract.

Look at the exploits over the last few years. JS, JS in Acrobat, Flash, Java. Any sort of VM with sandboxing is fair game. So long for the really low hanging fruit of straight up VB attacks. Further still, there are attacks through even the

What's the point? Oh no, G or FB have evil terms. Where are you going to go now? They've got you. You agreed to the terms.

All well and good, but what about when you say you'll ship the SDK? When you tell Wired and other interviews publicly that you'll have it out, and then you never say a thing. I even emailed and got a response from Eric himself saying "worki

WADR, most enterprise billing, invoicing and accounting systems are also such cases where it is not desirable or practical to sprinkle the business logic across dozens of silos.

I grant you that. I try to abide by everything in "Effective Java 2" but some of the code I come across in my daily work makes me ill. I wish I could say such code was uncommon, but someone will always try to use a hammer as a screwdriver i

Always love all the Java hate on ycomb. I'm not sure how a dynamically code hotswapping Ruby app with 10k classes and 1k domain objects works, but I suspect many of the same patterns emerge as have been solved in Java.

Hmm... guess the author is not familiar with @Autowired, @Resource, @Component... etc. You don't need XML fun. And, he complains about 2 of the same type... behold @Autowired(name="bar"), @Autowired(name="bah"). Miracle? No, just DI.

This can really be broken because you can redefine the numeric constructor of 1 to return false and thus get around the while(1). However, if for(;;) was used, then you cannot get around it. ;)

Checkout GWT (Java... hiss, boo!). It's had automation of all of these best practices and more (inline images, data/urls, class obfuscation, classname compilation, minification/gzipping, browser specific permutations) since before any of th

Let's say you're walking along and you want to find an XYZ franchise (and don't use Google/X Maps)? You could visit XYZ's site and get a simplified mobile interface, tap in your zip and go. Or, like the aforementioned sites, you could find

One of the many reasons I <3 GWT. Why run all the logic on the server if it can live in the client? Currently working on the same with www.runpartner.com from S3/EC2/CF.

This has been available in the Google Web Toolkit since 2006. I'm not sure why a Google employee would not have been aware of it. If you use GWT, only the bare minimum of resources (JS) are loaded to render the landing page. Further JS will
