I agree with you. I suppose what I should have said is that software engineering is becoming much more lateral than ever before. Though it seems like the verticalness is decreasing. Hmm, I wonder if the total "area" of "v

Man, software engineering at the cutting edge is getting harder and harder by the day. Not only are you expected to master coding but also math heavy ML and economics. I guess a consequence of software eating the world is that more and more

Oh cool, this is something I've been thinking about too. Please, if you feel you have the time, do email me (see my bio) with some lessons if you manage to build something.

One of my favourite ways to understand the SVD is like this. Think about the x-y plane, and imagine that we've drawn out the unit circle centered at the origin. Now imagine we have some matrix A that we apply to each point in the plane

I think the customization aspect is overrated. In a blind taste test I bet prepackaged salads and hand made ones would fare about as well. Just like how cheap and expensive wine are indistinguishable under a blindfold. And that's what&

Is it really that strange that random matrix theory models so many things though? Matrices without stochasticity can already model so many things in nature. And the reason for that is much more because they are a really well studied area

In this context it's probably wise to use "proof" carefully, otherwise it's easy to confuse with its mathematical usage. Maybe "Homotopy type theory is also a sign of the relationship between computation, logic and

I absolutely love the "prove me wrong" game. It reminds me of Nomic for some reason. Perhaps because both games are very language-based and have almost no rules (it's easy to "think outside the box" in both games).
