May be a faster safe version should be contributed. The current state is that unsafe rust takes half as much time as a safe go program in this benchmark. That is not very interesting because the benefits offered by rust are being given up t

The reverse complement program certainly doesn't need unsafe code, but the safe rust version[1] takes 3x the execution time of the unsafe rust version[2]. By comparison the fastest Go version[3] is fairly idiomatic Go without unsafe me

Are you referring to compiler plugins like the one providing regex! macro or is it something else?

If I have a bunch of records that need to be fetched together often and can't be dumped in a hstore of JSON column, how can I ensure data locality on disk in postgres? Since primary key is clustered in MySQL, I choose an appropriate ke

Ah, so I cannot just use any Java library that performs IO if I have to get quasar's benefits.

How do you determine whether a method call is thread-blocking or not? Should libraries be quasar-aware to not end up in the IO workers pool when invoked?

When a query is executed with JDBC, the execute() method does not return until the the DB responds. The method must have been invoked in some OS thread by quasar scheduler. Wouldn't that thread block as long as execute() doesn't c

Have you published the benchmark source codes used for the comparison, anywhere? I am interested in figuring out the bottlenecks that make go perform worse.

Go is much better at responding with large amounts of data when the database call is eliminated. I can only assume its ability to deal with large strings is leaps and bounds superior to v8 which makes sense to me. In my own micro-benchmar

The benefits of air travel outweigh the risk of dying in air crash and other modes of travel are riskier. However the benefits to the person helping the child is minuscule compared to the risk of ending up in prison and being added to sex o

I use ZeroMQ or Go's RPC libraries for internal communication and mostly use nginx as reverse proxy and to serve static files on the edge.

I do not know about others but I do it because not mixing up web server responsibilities with application server is a good idea. For example, I leave things like gzip compression and TLS handling to nginx without having to deal with them in

The bug affects application dealing with large integers which can be seen as a valid pointer within the program's address space. So, this will affect your app if it deals with large ints. There is also work underway to make the GC more prec

All network IO in go is non-blocking. Channels and goroutines avoid the nested callback mess. Go is also a better designed language than JS. Gorilla[1] provides nice libraries for web development in Go. [1] http://gorilla-web.appspot.com/
