Why not squash all the broken commits together before pushing to the central repository (assuming you use a DVCS)?

It wouldn't cost apple anything if they just allow applications downloaded of websites to be installed on iDevices. I'm sure subscription services would be happy to host a small application package themselves.

When MPEG LA which holds several codec related patents in its pool cannot indemnify its H.264 licensees, Google indemnifying WebM sounds far fetched.

Except that printing back the value of a POST parameter in PHP is just. <?php echo htmlspecialchars($_POST["name"]); ?> Most other languages would need a lot more (even with things like mod_perl). Plain PHP is d

Branches are usable only when a merge is not unnecessarily painful. SVN's lack of ability to track renames is a big pain especially in languages like Java where the filename corresponds to code itself. SVN is capable of leaving the codebase

This is a simple expression. How about writing (1+2) * ((3 + 6) / (1+2)) in prefix notation without losing readability? When precedence is to be overridden, the infix form can be easily understood by anyone with basic knowledge of arithmet

For quite a long time, Java was the only imperative language (most programmers can grok imperative faster than a functional language) with garbage collection, language support for multi-threading, a cross-platform VM, tooling and libraries,

Didn't Linus himself mention that bitkeeper was where Git's inspiration came from? Just like UNIX, bitkeeper was proprietary but it did work out many things for Git to use.

My biggest gripe with Galaxy S (at least the I9000) is that it doesn't do OTA firmware upgrade. It also needs Samsung Kies which runs only on Windows and on top of it fails to upgrade the firmware with a "Failed to convert to upgrade mode"

The save icon on Ubuntu's default theme uses a downward arrow pointing at a hard disk. While not entirely relevant, even clear looks icon theme in Gnome uses a downward arrow pointing to a rack in a file cabinet.
