The trend is more extreme weather, so you get lots of rain over a few days then a dry month. So your soil gets waterlogged and then you don't get enough water a few weeks later.

Lots of estimation experts out in force today, obviously Hacker News is full of sooth sayers and savants or maybe they just over point everything like everyone else.

Definitely, the whole presentation had a weird culty vibe to it. I couldn't take it seriously when the presenter was gushing over Windows so much.

The UX on that website more akin to torture than an actual user experience. Not only an auto playing video but one that actually chases you down the page and I can't block the element because I'm on a work laptop.

The Register is a informal British news website. So you see these colloquialisms a lot, it's just a slightly ironic term for non-diet fizzy drinks.

Looks cool, but is there any reason sentences on the website don't begin with capital letters? It is a youth thing?

I don't see the problem here. These people don't seem to have valid visas or right to work in the UK and therefore are breaking the law. The UK has a big issue with people coming on the wrong visa and then working in the informal

I think it isn't helped by the fact that SSD fail in a more specific way, you can write x amount of bytes before it should fail, so it feels more like a countdown to failure when you use one even though you could probably never write t

From my experience Accenture is your typical high-attrition, low-wage consultancy body shop, they underbid and under deliver for bad work but they look attractive to the bean counters who don't have to work with their shite.

It is an advisory panel so I suspect Police Scotland will just ignore them or do some vague measure to look like they are doing something about it.

Doesn't seem too out of the ordinary. NATO did a similar thing a few years back on the Russian border. It's basically a mixture of sabre-rattling and getting the cobwebs out of the military in terms of logistics, planning and comm

Where is the antitrust lawsuit? Microsoft got done for this before (bundling Internet Explorer with Windows) and if you look at where they are now buying out businesses and using dark patterns in Windows 10 to make people use Edge as well a

I agree with the Scrum Master suggestion, my Scrum Master pretty much just creates meeting invites for 40 hours a week. We have a lot of contracts where we have Scrum Masters just because we do Agile, usually the non-technical types do it.

Maybe it's a bit of a generational thing? I'm not a fan. Shit loud music, £5+ to get in, the drinks are expensive and bouncers are arbitrary so you have to deal with that.

Nearly everybody I've seen seems to completely dismiss the amount of closed-sourced Java that is floating around in enterprises. There is code outside of GitHub, you know.

I never really got the fuss over Twitter, it always felt to me that the only people that cared about what happened on Twitter were other people on Twitter. Journos seem to love it for some reason so I keep seeing articles on BBC, for exampl

Ha, my handwriting was so bad I had to use one of those handwriting pens instead of a fountain pen for a while. I seem to of been taught looped cursive even though I was in Primary school in the late 90s but I just print everything nowadays

Low level differences between emulators and the physical hardware could make a big difference to the high score/speedrun in theory, especially when developers take advantage of esoteric or undocumented features.

We've used Conductor at my workplace for about a year now. The grounding is pretty solid but the documentation is pretty pants once you dig into it. We have to resort to digging into github issues to find fairly fundamental features th

How is git flow complicated? I feel like some developers are doing shonky stuff with git branching and then blaming it on the branching strategy. If you used a system with less use of branches you'd just end up with dodgy code in maste
