Incapable of being packaged? Usually not. Incapable of being included in a distro’s repositories? Usually, yes.

Regular users on Linux shouldn’t run commercial software?

It's not just misleading. It's wrong. The timeline and order of those events is wrong.

Part of this ruling is about how the images are used -- Fair use -- not just that they were stored in a particular way. If Google was using the smaller versions of the images (thumbnails) in other ways, it could have been infringing. >

A resized, smaller, or encoded version of an image is still subject to copyright. Calling an encoding an 'impression' is deceitful.

I think you've made up an irrelevant argument. The work has been incorporated into a commercial product, intentionally, under the control of someone else. Software isn't humans that pay taxes, appear in court, have rights, etc.

Tildes is a popular-kids-club-invite-only thing and therefore not a replacement for phpBB or Reddit. (Before you say it's open source and you should just run your own copy—they provide no instructions for setting up your own instance.

They do sell underwear and other essentials. There are lots of reasons people might need them, not just all-nighters at offices. Especially since lots of convenience stores aren't near office buildings.

I see what you meant now. Fair enough. The other part of my prediction is that some of the (real, non-bot) engagement that the giant generic subreddits get are from users that are anchored to Reddit by more specialized subreddits, like thos

You just said those power moderators will be removed and need to be replaced, right? Isn't that contradictory?

People end up leaving or not participating subreddits with low-quality moderation. They also tend to get overrun with spam and abuse, and have to be shut down. Finding a bunch of crappy replacement moderators isn't going to work long-t

You just made that up. That's not what the phrase "force of nature" means.

By definition of having an AI generate something for you instead of making it yourself, you can’t create exactly what you want. You can probably get it in the ballpark, though. But that’s exactly the same scenario we have today with musicia

I think that’s more of an emergent behavior, not a force of nature. But I agree that enough people might do stupid stuff to create this kind of emergent behavior, which seems to be happening now. Like maybe 90% or more of people think these

“Force of nature” generally means some phenomenon of physics or some natural disaster outside of human control, which is what I meant. “A big and powerful cool thing” is not what I meant, and not what force of nature usually means.

That does sound cool, but you don’t need a purely generative AI to do this. Dealing with a reader who jumps around, re-reads paragraphs, flips back a few pages for a moment, etc. in a coherent way seems like the more difficult and interesti

There’s already an endless supply of free and royalty free music in every style. While an AI can now also generate that for you as well, it was not necessary to create the AI to meet your goal and requirement.

You make it sound like some force of nature is causing this to occur. These things exist because people are making them, despite there no longer being a healthy reason for doing so. (I’m not saying there’s reason for AI development in gener

I don’t understand what’s motivating certain types of people to continue working on these types of AI practical implementation projects. There’s nothing good for the world this (type of AI in particular) will offer. Maybe someone will say t

None of the pro musicians I know leap to update their OS like that. Some of them even keep their music machines perpetually offline. These computers are tools for music which just happen to run some OS.

Handling/touching/processing MIDI events with JavaScript in Max will mess up the timing due to how Max handles scheduling — it will defer the event to a lower priority thread — so I don't recommend doing that. You can safely

Can’t edit this comment now, but the opening sentence has a typo. It should say, “I don’t think Max4Live is a good choice for building audio plugins.”

I don't think Max4Live is not a good choice for building audio plugins. It's a weird platform that was designed for 'institutionalized academic music,' as I once read someone describe it. It's difficult to program i
