Law enforcement agencies across the country are failing to provide us with even basic information about the lives they take. We know they killed at least 1,232 in 2022. Were all of those necessary? How many could have been avoided? Does law

If you weren't a white man, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was pretty absurd in the 1960s. Also conspicuous that QI was introduced as a concept around the time police were being told they couldn't knock non-white he

You'd like to think so. Unfortunately there are far too many folks in this country who would buy the "this candidate hates cops" and "that candidate wants crime unpunished" line spouted by those unions. Then the pol

Sadly the killings are a daily (at minimum) occurrence as well. https://mappingpoliceviolence.org/ It's surprisingly hard to get people to understand that police shouldn't be killing guilty people either if they h

Luckily, no one ever used The Bad Parts again after that book was published. Even getting folks to reliably use a linter can be a chore. Getting all C coders current and future to use these new techniques seems wildly optimistic to me.

I always think of "international" as the baseline, because I know it means among multiple nations. Intra- is "the other one". Also, isn't "inter-" vs "intra-" a Latin idiom? It's present in

Also Rust's macros are logically part of Rust whereas the C preprocessor knows nothing about the C language. To say the C preprocessor complicates analysis is an understatement.

Did you learn C? According to the chart you linked, C, C++, and Go are all more verbose than either Java or Rust.

It's a good thing all developers in all groups on all projects at a company always conform to the same style in the real world. Otherwise the plan for annotating C might run into some stumbling blocks.

JSX, a bad idea born of 2012 web development pragmatism, should be ripped out, root and stem. Then it'd be 100% faster. HTML + CSS > JS So why would you ever put JS in charge of rendering HTML and CSS, especially with all the boiler

Are those languages newer than SQL? Did their designers know that SQL integration would eventually be needed? If so, then why didn't they incorporate the glue as part of their language design? I wonder if you are directing your ire tow

On the one hand, FROM first makes conceptual sense. On the other, it doesn't offer anything significantly better than SQL. Is it marginally more terse? Yes. Is terseness paramount in a database manipulation and transformation language?

The note about composability annoys me. Does it have composability akin to functional programming languages? No. But SQL isn't a functional programming language. Never has been. It's the world's most popular 4th generation la

HTML is one context. CSS becomes a context switch with a different mental model. JS becomes another. Backend in Python, Java, PHP, etc. becomes another. Access via GraphQL, grpc, REST, etc. is yet another. SQL just adds one more to the list

I would argue #3 is obviously better, especially if it's done as Svelte has done it. It's hard to look at a Svelte component and see much more than a <style> tag, a <script> tag and some lightly annotated HTML for data

I'm not sure we can quibble over the definition of a vDOM. There is the DOM as found in browsers and then there's a layer on top of that, proxying access to the DOM, which we call a vDOM. Svelte does not have this construct. All a
