As someone researching CS Education, what are your thoughts on understanding something vs. knowing how to do something (the generally accepted Western vs. Eastern education debate)? Playing music and music theory are two separate domains th

Cognitive Load Theory [1] breaks down our mental processes as storing schemata (information) in long-term memory. As of now, this is thought to be unlimited as its been difficult to disprove. Short-term memory, or working memory, involves r

Unless we want to go into an all night drinking philosophical discussion - I'd say its a combination of nature and nurture (though how "unconscious" is nature would be the drinking topic). There's a great article the arg

As an aside, do you know of any research where eye movement is not possible? I'm thinking of sparring in grappling, where you can't see parts of your opponent's body because you literally can't move your head that way.

I've been practicing martial art for just over a decade now, no means world class, but one idiom I teach is "slow is smooth, smooth is fast", and generally tell students to slow down. We (people) get worked up and excited and

As a former mindfulness case study, I'm sad to hear it was not helpful to this study. While the report does cover a number of experiments, the limitation to their research is the use of self-reports. While you can attempt to frame ques

To play devil's advocate for a second - I don't mind this (that much). The phrase "Don't Be Evil" seems like a kitschy nod to Google's earlier days when they were just a couple of programmers in a garage. Howev
