   There's a pretty simple test: name a brand. Did you successfully name a brand? Then ads work.

   The values of the FOSS community are pro Good. If you do something shady, and they help you save face with a gentle touch like this, you're lucky.

   You do notice the ads, though. That's the whole point of visual ads: you are being influenced to buy certain brands in the periphery.
