There are 3 revisions of i225 and Intel essentially got rid of it and launched i226. That one also seems to be problematic [1] . Why is it exponentially harder to make a 2.5gbps NIC when the 1gbps NIC (i210 and i211) has worked well for the

With computers like framework and system76, the community for hardware support is solid too now. Seriously considering a switch from M1. I feel like macOS is half baked development environment. I only stay because I never bought a Linux sup

The thing about reliability is that not every single thing needs to be ‘reliable’. The reliability comes from knowing the failure points. Some issues you may not be able to fix right away but simply knowing why something fails is more relia

Just don't use wifi or connect your TV to the internet. That works for me. My TV is online only during firmware updates which almost never happen cause its become old and those stopped long time ago.

I use an iPhone and other than that I hope to not use anything else that’s so cloud reliable. Maybe an AppleTV if I get one, but I only watch sports so a few cable channels are more than enough for me I think.

It’s like a football (soccer) team. Yes the players are playing and scoring goals. But a great coach (SAF) is just as important as a great team. Without him, the same team doesn’t perform the same.

This is mobile phones dominating that number. Almost every 4G / 5G phone right now uses a dual stack IPv4/6 connection. This is not necessarily problematic but home broadband is still lagging by a lot. I sometimes never get a pref

From a data perspective it's interesting that confidence reduces when a military isn't in an active war zone. But then again if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. I wouldn't know about an accidental breakage system o

If you look at systems like Deco (and a bunch of others I've noticed recently like linksys) the devices have stopped being dns forwarders themselves to clients and instead they assign your ISP (or the ones you've set for your ISP)

Almost all ISPs use Serial and (optional) PLOAM to authenticate your ONU. Nokia GPON SFPs allow you to change almost everything that is exposed to the ISP for authentication. ITU standards mean that ISPs have to work according to the spec.

Biggest problems I have faced for home networks : ISPs are poorly configured and do very shady things sometimes like DNS hijacking. More often than not poor ONU firmware or hardware means you will see weird things like latency spikes or str

You should see his interviews with Dr. Ian Cutress. The man basically knows everything in the industry in and out and knows how to create great teams. I want to interview for Tenstorrent at some point and would love to work for him. I feel

I just got a new USB-C monitor that delivers 65W watt. I think something like this would be a wonderful desktop for me and I might just get one for a desktop.

The biggest reason I like xSense is because of unbound and using root dns. OpenWRT supports that, but otherwise I have to setup a local linux instance to serve DNS via unbound. With pfsense and opnsense I find that the dns is a lot more sta

What I find easy(ier?) is to run (x)sense on a dedicated firewall and either a mesh with cheap openwrt routers or get something like Deco mesh and run it in AP mode if you don’t have cat6 at home. I think this combination can be under 300$

Microsoft had a good licensing model that sort of worked. Instead, they are going towards selling malware for free or at a very low cost to manufacturers. It is kind of sad. The UX on Windows 10 for me still feels better for an average Joe

Is there a way to buy droplets for a year at a time? Like 40$ for a year would be a sweet deal for the $4 droplet. Especially for things like PiHole and wireguard.
