I'm busy because I work 60 hours a week so I can ensure my family has what they need as we grow. My mentality, and I hope I don't break away from this (and continue down a spiral of working too much) is to gradually reduce my work

One thing to add, is that I love the [Hacker News Enhancement Suite]( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hacker-news-enhanc... ) and it's no fun using HN without it :)

This definitely seems on the extremely low end. In Toronto, you can easily find a job making 90k+ with a year or two of experience.

Dan, First, thank you for all you do. Huge fan, and you're an asset to the community. One question I have is around this quote: > Learn React first and try to use it. If you have issues related to state or if you’re just curious, yo

We deploy a heavily used REST API that at the top level, is using Flask to capture/proxy/marshal the request and response. We decided to use it over Django simply because we did not need a large set of the Django features.

I love Jenkins, and it's incredibly important for our teams. The redesign offering much stronger focus on the pipeline is key in helping us (and perhaps many) teams move past the "Continuous build tool" phase and into the &qu

The only viable way for me to purchase a large majority of shows my wife and I enjoy watching are to maintain a cable subscription, loaded with channels that I don't care about. I can't justify paying nearly $100 CAD / month.

I've tried many TODO apps, and apart from my Inbox being a (small) TODO list, I just maintain a tmux window called "notes", and it's literally a large file I type into via vim daily. I never remove notes, I just add a ne

This is great, thank you! I teach a weekly Python class to kids and have been slowly refining my curriculum (Shameless plug, the Sphinx docs are up online here for anyone to critique! http://justbartek.ca/python-curriculum&#

I used to try and follow this advice, but honestly -- Life gets in the way and sometimes you indeed have to enjoy life. Dropping your streak for a day or two won't hurt, as long as you hop back on.

I've been using React-Native on the 0.20 branch, so that seems to be the only thing I'd consider coming out.

Was discussing AI with my wife last night and when she asked "What is it actually?" I did not have a clear answer. This helps, thank you!

Ask HN: AI is going to be big. How should we learn?

We just cancelled our trip to Guatemala and Belize (planned leaving date was Feb 2nd.) Just not worth the risk to go down there (Yes, my wife is pregnant) Horrifying and I hope the impact can be reduced for the people living in the affected

This is great. Particularly appreciate the "forest kindergarten". As I grew up, I felt so much of my schooling missed out on applying the knowledge we learned in the class room, and of course, the scope of what we learned in class

I'm definitely not a bored billionaire. $50/month for high speed in Canada (which already has awful rates!) and it works fine.

This a good time to ask about a good, open source text editor that outputs to Markdown instead of HTML?

Haven't emoji been huge in Japan and neighbouring countries for a long time now? They already are a language, but now it's spreading to western culture.

The idea of writing via a stylus and having it transformed not into a massive PNG, but perhaps a simple Unicode file is really growing on me. I love pen and paper for jotting down ideas or using it to solve problems, but it seems this mediu
