Damn, your post came across as extremely crunchy. I get that you think all of us on the west coast of the US are expecting $XXXk a year, but that both is and isn't the case depending on where & what you do. For example, in Seattle

Are you I/O limited perchance? I have a really low end x100e, and even that doesn't stutter. Your E1-2100 should be head and shoulders above it performance wise, hopefully it is less of a space heater too (tho the x100e gets 5hrs

I can understand the impression, but having owned similar chips to what he described, at that price/performance point you are gonna get within 20min of the battery life of either of those chips with a good condition used Thinkpad.

Unlikely, at peak times most alternate routes are already at or above capacity, energy & navigation dropping in cost will not make more road capacity suddenly appear, and the point of diminishing returns with road capacity is very low.

Omg yes, any kind of background hum or distorted comfort noise is the absolute bane of telephony, having experienced it on a few messed up landlines before.

The non-free repository is well maintained, it is not as if Debian is Trisquel or something, the Debian Developers are reasonable people.

Why not get a T420 then? I've been picking them up locally for sub-$100 and they'll blow an E1-2100 or a Z3735F out of the water any day.

Definitely, if there was another viable smartphone platform I'd be all over it, cause Android is a burning dumpster fire that Google has no intention of cleaning up. Funnily enough, Microsoft with the same OEMs (Samsung, LG, HTC, etc)

Sure, they could afford to hire support personnel, but they would be deluged with inquiries on day 1, even if less than 1 percent of Google's users contacted them every 5 years.

VoIP usually isn't a tin can (see VoLTE, Google Voice, 99% of VoIP providers), its just some call centers in international locations use g729 which wrecks audio quality & is not fault tolerant, thus when you get an AT&T rep in

Yeah, the outlook for AMD is poor, but their new ARM chips at least look appealing, with 2x 10GBe on the SOC at well below market price.

Look at it from Google's perspective, unless you are pushing volume and have a dedicated account manager, they will not help you, it'd cost too much for them to do so.

True, but what has been accomplished with the Linux Sunxi community is a shortening of that loop to bring up new boards with modern kernels, the Pine A64 for example took only a year to gain support[1], and that was around the time they act

This wasn't an open source driver, this was a hardware abstraction layer that they wanted in the kernel so their Windows driver could be distributed under a proprietary license and used without a kernel recompile. A year ago AMD said t

This was pitched by AMD as "Yeah, our new proprietary driver can use the same kernel stub as the libre driver" with minor modifications a year ago, and instead what was delivered was a giant HAL that only AMD can maintain. I get w

Perhaps a solution all on an OrangePi 2E or something similar would be better, since then you have a libre platform with no blobs, and then you can theme it to be close to Windows. Ideally Tails would move in the direction of Signal Private
