You know, we had video games back in the eighties/nineties when I was a kid. We even had BBS's as a precursor to the Internet. We still played D&D. So don't worry about that.

New Relic is really great. Especially if you use Ruby, as it has instrumentation deep into the application run level. Unmatched for finding bottlenecks really.

There's a huge difference between staying 15 years at a place, because it's a nice place to work and fits your life situation, and then signing a contract to stay some place for 4 years, when you'd much rather be doing someth

The very first paragraph on the page says: NB: These techniques are universal, but for syntax we chose Postgres. Thanks to the inimitable pgAdminIII for the Explain graphics.

It doesn't seem like this was intentional in any way. I don't think that counts as being "evil".

The extra level of subdomain as proposed by Homakov, seems like a much more worthwhile fix.

Just a thought: Couldn't advertisers collaborate on maintaining a blocklist, just like users do with adblockers? Does it already exist?

I suppose implementation could have, but since the language is declarative, I think that could rightfully be considered a bug.

I don't think that's true. Most consumer focused startups will target the US market, even if within the EU. It's by far the largest homogenous (well, relatively) market. Targeting "Europe" isn't really a thing

Are you sure? There's probably a strong correlation between age and financial obligations and there's probably also a strong correlation between age and maturity/experience. Unless the pool size is very large, you are severel

Yes, it seems rather disingenuous to lump different countries (or even states/cities within the US) into one ladder. 50K in San Francisco is a lot less than 50K in .. well, pretty much everywhere else.

Apples to oranges, isn't it? I'm sure the military is far ahead of Google, in terms of building weapons. But I'm sure Google is much better at building search engines.

Those are relevant factors too, surely. But you have to relate to the reality that you are in. If you have a high burn rate and no way of lowering it considerably, you have to take that into consideration.

I suppose it depends on who you are. If you have a family and a mortgage, the answer may be yes.

The only time a speed limit sign changes behavior in the vast majority of drivers (in the US anyway) is when a cop is present. And that would exactly be the case, if you were tracked and got a ticket the moment you crossed the limit.

It’s a pity some people still build important apps in PHP... I wonder how that could be. It's almost like people chose to use PHP and it works for them. Like they made an informed decision and actually ended up going with PHP. Maybe
