And you can't base64 encode it and store it in a string?

Blank page for me? And view source reveals nothing useful. Apparently this is some kind of javascript application and not a web page?

Of course - But you wouldn't see a 1:20 spread between the low and high end of the scale within the same country. Not in "The West" anyway. I suppose it just says something about how diverse a country India is. It still baffl

Yes, but presumably this was the spread within the same country (India)?

Let me get that straight. A junior dev can get up to 2K USD? That's a huge span. What determines where one ends up on that scale?

I don't know. Upon seeing a variable named "three", I wouldn't immediately assume it contained the literal number 3, since that would be rather pointless use of a variable. It's an odd name, but I don't think i

It's not about right or wrong. It's about trust. And MS burned that in the nineties. It would take a tremendous effort to rebuild it.

Maybe I'm just a bit slow, but what's going on with the 50/50 "guessing score" reasoning? Surely, you should half the wrong answers as well, rather than just subtracting it from the right answers?!?

It's explicitly stated that the choice of language was not considered a root cause. And that was even asm - not C The software was written in assembly language that might require more attention for testing and good design. However the

I find that answering questions on SO or some other forum, is actually a good way to get smarter about a topic. Or just keep sharp. So it doesn't have to be an all altruistic effort.

I consider my self an experienced programmer, but I would estimate that I use SO at least a few times a day, when programming. It's usually through a Google search, but nonetheless. I also find information in other places of course, bu

Well, you could simply have multiple instances running on different nodes. It's manual work, but by no means impossible. In my setup, I have a sphinx server running on the same node as my web server (Which is the consumer of the search

Hadn't considered Riak, but I can see that it has some full-text search capabilities. Any idea about its features and how it compares in performance, as a raw search index?

Did you try/consider Sphinx? It's simple and it's quite fast. I'm using that and I'm pretty happy with it, but I might investigate ES at some point to see if I can squeeze a bit more speed out of it.

In general, I don't think it's the startups that discriminate against older people, as much as it's the other way around. Most older people would tend to have a better skill set and the startups would love to get that, but th

Scaling, like security or maintainability, is a really fluffy and cross cutting concept. It's hard to get it right without having a gradual increase in load. So talking about the "basics" is a bit unfair, I think.

I'm using a small local regitrar, europeandomaincentre.com - I originally picked them because they can accommodate all sorts of international domains, and partially because they are within walking distance of my office. That way, if so

I think that's missing the point a bit. Using gmail as your primary address will make you vulnerable to Google arbitrarily (or even justified) shutting down your access. We all heard stories about that. What you should do, is make sure
