Editing /etc/hosts isn't exactly rocket science. If you're a developer anyway.

Also - On the negative side, de-compression may be costly on the client. That would be really interesting to see measured as well.

Funny how the tone suggests that this is something malicious being done to the guardian.

Are they though? They could just set up their own redirection service on their own domain - not anything complicated in that. My guess is they use it because it's just a simple way for marketing to add some analytics - that doesn'

Interesting view point, but number of contributors is just proxy for the real metric, which is number of users. You can have a relatively closed group of developers make something that a lot of people use.

I wonder how common it is for investors to allow a partial cashout of employee stockholders like this? And how are they going to distribute the cash? pro-rata?

I think you severely underestimate how important it is to have a monopoly on the market. FB's main asset is also its userbase, so by that reasoning they are easy to emulate. It's not that people haven't tried that, but it doe

Depends on what exactly it is you want to map. From a purely genetic perspective you're right, but being a parent is certainly more than just contributing sperm/eggs. And besides - it's very hard to know if someone is indeed

That's a hard to verify claim. Although the opposite is most certainly true - That a many other countries have a higher defence spending because of high US defence spending.

You can put the bare repo on a server and then use ssh. Dead simple and works great if you have a dev server where all developers have access to anyway.

Unrelated, but your site displays an SSL warning, because you have mixed content. Might want to fix that.

After one month of insanity and abuse I was called to a Friday afternoon meeting with the founders. They told me that they felt that we had a difference in style and that they didn't want me to work there anymore. Just like that, no f

Yes, it is. But I think Staltek may be right in that Firefox essentially takes the same approach as emacs and lets extensions access the main application runtime directly (Although with some security constraints).

Sort of depends on what is meant by a plug-in architecture. I think it's begging the question a bit. I can compare writing extensions to Firefox and extensions to Emacs and it's pretty much the same experience, if that helps?

That's a side effect rather than an essential part of the model. You would lose privacy with other models too. E.g. micropayment systems would know as much about your spending habits as Google knows about your browsing habits today.
