I can confirm, we use Temporal and used Tray.io for a bit. They're not operating at the same level at all, Tray/Zapier kind of drag and drop wire things together can be great to solve some quick pain points, but I would not build

I bought one of these LED screens (you get 64*32px, so not a lot!), and I wrote an app to view my local surf conditions on it (so I know what I'm missing out on while working). But because it doesn't support a way to run local app

Jeanne Calment was a famous French supercentenarian (died in 1997 at 122), and there were suspicions around her age: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeanne_Calment#Scepticism_rega...

I love this, I played with grib2 files a while back to build a surf forecasting widget (and a surf forecast API!). It used now-deprecated libraries and it was a major pain to wrap my head around how everything worked.

IIRC L1 is not transferrable, so your best bet would be to try to snag an H1B at a different employer. It's much easier to do while in the US, so I'd ride out the L1 and apply for jobs between Nov and February to get in the H1B pa

AFAIK you need a visa first, most people I know that did this (myself included) first had a visa first: H1, L1, O1, etc. Then their employer sponsored a green card. H1-B is the most common for tech workers, unfortunately due to quotas it ca

I don't play poker, but it's interesting there that the right play (because sound statistically) can make you lose the game. Over time a player that makes better decisions will come out on top. It makes me think sometimes about ho

Unrelated - did you go from management back to IC? Or a quieter management role.

I asked this a lot, and honestly loved these interviews and the conversations that stemmed from it. It turns out many candidates may work on either side of HTTP and be reasonably ok candidates who just happened to not be familiar with this

At my current company engineers aren't very good at technical writing, they were better at my previous org. I think one big difference was that we shared technical documentation much more widely before every initiative, engineers were

I think about this sometimes. What about being a somewhat transparent shit umbrella? Like you don't let the team get hit by the shit, but they know that it's raining shit out there. I think it helps put some trade-offs in context.

I was wondering about this, I had a bunch of these screwed in together as a cheap kitchen cabinet when I was younger. They can be get pretty wobbly even with the braces.

I don't know how much things have changed, but in 2008 I bought my first pair of glasses in France, and had to leave the store to get some cash because they had a 10 euro minimum. I lost my prescription sunglasses a few months ago and

I had a not so great solution that took about 30 minutes to run, but since I was busy with Christmas things I'd run it, go about my things, stop by the computer later, fix a tiny mistake, and run it again. I kept thinking about cleaner

It's usually easier to get promoted to manager internally, then move to a new org. You can do it, but you may have to justify some form of management experience (tech lead duties, etc.). Alternatively some companies are fine with hirin

I agree with not making assumptions. However I don't think you'd take an ambulance for an elective surgery since it's not an emergency.
