At least Fuji and Olympus have realised the new model cycle is getting longer so they are releasing new firmware features until the replacing model is launched. Canikon aren't doing new features in firmwares, seems more like bug fixes

Nowadays there's Vox music player for Mac which more or less mimics Winamp somewhat. There's not that much of selection for Mac outside of Spotify and iTunes so this is awesome:) https://vox.rocks/mac-music-player

You forgot the most prominent feature of PCMCIA/PC Card: You can stuff them inside of the laptop instead of carrying bunch of USB dongles and cables. For storage expansion this was easy way to get more space but of course network cards

Text Wrangler is lot nicer than Notepad++ for random ascii/script stuff. For bigger projects, use Sublime or some other IDE(ish) editor. In addition to big IDE I have TW running all the time for notes etc.
