This is developers own fault for licensing a platform that can be audited and taken away at a moments notice. It's better to support software that doesn't require a license. Open Source is going to be the future. Glad these corps

I was thinking the exact same thing. Nobody want notifications. It's just a way for sites to spam ads. The fact that you have to have a seperate warning for spam messages proves that the notifications system itself is a design flaw.

Sounds to me like a mental/emotional crutch/mechanism to distance oneself from the world/reality of the living. There are things that we are meant to strive to understand/accept about ourselves and the world by way of ou

Its a lock that can be weaponized against you so yea, is more than just a lock. Your simplistic analogy doesn't do the reality justice.

This is more like giving control over the locks to a corporation so they can make sure you are safe. Its not even remotely the same thing as you just described.

And they also tie you into systems you don't control. That power can be wielded against you when you least expect it. When you trade security for freedom, you deserve neither.

I feel this is a culture problem that can be localized on a per organization basis. If people are getting promoted for be douche bags you're working at the wrong organization. We feed sociopathy by our choices.

It's going to take a cultural shift in awareness of how abusing peoples freedom harms society before this really changes. Probably 95% of people on hackernews works for corporations that do this. Do what you can to shift the awareness.

I'm capable of understanding humanity shares best interests and using lies and deceit to manipulate is harmful to society. It sad you have chosen to believe otherwise. So no I don't agree.
