Great engineers learn from mistakes, and it seems like you did. Formal training or not, we all make mistakes, but indeed a good approach is to take a step back and analyse _any_ issue or complex problem before implementing it. Sometimes pro

This is potentially good news for Europe, as I am sure Germany will force other countries to follow suit. Most likely using a diktat given via the EU commission.

“Mercedes-Benz is constantly at the forefront of automotive safety technologies” - not really. Rear wheel drive, which is common in mb and bmw cars are a real danger in winter. Volvo claims, and seems to be, a safer and more at the forefron

I agree with open source =/= free but what most comments like “open source alternative to” mean is exactly that. HN is a forum promoting ideas both for the benefit of everyone and / or commercial, yet each time someone showcases t

Keep up the good work. Some HN types beg for freeware and yet wonder why they cant escape the rat race. Quality software should be rewarded and should not be free of cost.

Downvoting any “open source alternative” to anything as those are usually crapware.

I totally support facebook leveraging their tech and data, all i am saying is that it will be discredited day one given the media hostility against it.

Facebook should probably wait for a few years until it does it. Currently it is the main traffic driver for “news” outlets and they will likely try to discredit the search engine.

So the us doesn't end up like countries such as Romania, where the government can easily subdue its population with a simple good beating. It’s harder to subdue an armed population.

In some countries even with two or three providers you get a lot faster internet connections without limits.

It’s almost as if members of the society support dictatorships, making governments a reflection of those societies. I am originally from a former communist society and 30 years after communism fell people still vote strongmen in power.

Gents, we are the ones misreading Hong Kong. China is now flexing muscles to show the US and the rest of the free world what they can do: they can destroy one of the richest areas in the world without a sweat, and they brutalise a group of

For workers, yes, and that is quite expected. A company is profitable for as long as it makes games that go viral. And interest in those games fades in time, so it’s quite expected. As indie tho i know plenty of success stories out there to

Strange how putrid governments find members of society happy to oppress other members of the society. Such as those soldiers happily waiting to execute orders against the freedoms of their fellow citizens.

Historically people placed business like buildings around town centres, as these were easy to reach. Lawyers, accountants, doctors and so on were supposed to be within walking distance. But these days this is becoming less and less practica

I think this points out the elephant in the room: why are so many people in supposedly high income cities not able to buy properties? This is an issue that needs to be solved hand in hand with pollution: less travel, less need for a car, an

It appears tho the right tool for the task at hand, as a codebase grows, is NOT Python. A good starting point for someone fresh of off a university campus, and easily impressionable. An "object oriented" language without even the
