On a scale of 1-10, how impressive was the Nils’ sweep of exploiting all three main browsers? I was surprised. For IE 8, I’d give him a 9 out of 10. For Safari, maybe a 2. It’s just too easy to pop Safari. For Firefox on Windows, I

To be fair they encourage people to upgrade from MSIE 6 and 7 too, and if they can achieve that, I'm willing to consider that a good thing.

I think I agree with the conclusion: If you already have an iPhone 3G, this update is more than good enough reason not to even consider a iPhone 3G S.

Opera's only chance in the market is to spread virally. To have an Opera user tell an IE/Firefox/Safari user about this cool new feature that they could both use if that IE/Firefox/Safari user would just switch to Opera. Looking at the ho

What kinds of apps is this supposed to unleash? If the application is sufficiently complex to require programming or a database, which is true of just about any non-trivial app, then the user is savvy enough to host apps for free in severa

You live in the US don't you? In most of the world phone and subscription are not tied at all. If I want a phone, I go buy one. If I want a new plan, I go sign up for one. It's really that simple most places not the US. For reference, it's

I work mostly with Windows, so that is where I have my core skills. That however doesn't detract me from the "Use whatever tool that works best" philosophy. And I consider OS part of my tool-kit. In some cases Linux is clearly superior. In

Creating your "own" opensearch provider for any search engine on the internet is ridiculously easy. In fact, going to any search engine which allows you to add a search provider should give you a simple enough template to work with. Just cu

I know it's cliche by now, and definitely a minor nitpick, but mentioning iTunes as the result of a perfectionist super-critic sounds like madness to anyone who isn't on a Mac. I would argue the Windows-port is the worst (yet successful) so

ORM is not a good abstraction for anything but the trivial case of a table. As soon as you want to do anything actually relational, I have yet to see an ORM layer that comes up with an efficient join. Microsoft's Linq for SQL generates mo

Like others have pointed out, justin.tv's main issue in cases like this would be serving the same data to lots of users, aka bandwidth, which can pretty easily solved. Twitter however has to fetch random data for million of different users,

Not to deliberately derail the thread or anything, but if you in any way associate using google search with promoting open-source, you are doing something wrong. Google search is (too) as proprietary as it gets. As for bing, I gave it a sho
