FWIW - I just migrated my old WordPress site to Heroku, but I decided to keep the WP database structure intact. So, I made a little Sinatra app with an ActiveRecord adapter that can understand the WP db schema. It's just a hack to support m

Sure - that's why I'm wondering if there's a "good reason" aside from that they need to raise money to remain in business. Maybe they'll be able to provide some more insight on their blog at some point.

I'm wondering why they need to raise money at all. Aren't they charging for their services? I'd feel more comfortable knowing that they're a self-sustaining business, as opposed to a startup that needs to raise money. Maybe there's a good r

The cool thing about this is -- browsing quickly through the source -- it looks like it's real easy to make your own Heroku plugins. Their addon system seems to be going gangbusters, and this is the icing on the cake ;)

Nick, one of the other guys that worked on the site, is into this industry. He does tutorials and stuff, so a lot of people follow his website and twitter account.

I've definitely thought about that, but decided that it was too much work relative to the gain it would bring. Maybe I'm wrong, though...

No, but Vimeo tracks plays, and I've seen people on Twitter saying that they're getting more traffic because of the site, so I think it's working... I think having some kind of stats tracking would be nice, but that'd be more work ;)

They're separate for now. That's an idea I've thought about, though, but I'm not sure if it's better to keep Vimeo's "like" and this "like" as separate things or not... For the time being, I think our plan is to make a "top 20" page or some

I've just released a small side project website that came from an idea I had with a buddy during our plan ride to SXSW Interactive. It's supposed to be a gimmicky and easy way to find motion designers. Basically, you can upload "reels" and

I've written two "getting started with passenger + nginx" articles. One is for Ubuntu, one is for Mac OS X: http://almosteffortless.com/2009/10/22/installing-varnish-wi... http://almosteffortless.com/2009/09/16/passenger-with-nginx-...

I've been using passenger + nginx very happily for a few months now. I'd highly recommend giving it another shot.

Installation is faster. You can understand how the formulas work. You can make your own. You can find lots of them very easily. You can contribute more easily. It's on GitHub. I dunno - there's probably more, but that's a quick list. What r

But what if you're providing a service that's built on top of the YouTube API and provides value in that it helps people find interesting videos for their children to watch? What might constitute "sufficient value" in that case?

I've been toying around with a prototype application that uses the YouTube API, and I remember the first time I came across this passage in the TOS very well. Read it again, closely: "...the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions
