See some of the other answers. The memristor is not a chip, but the 4th fundamental electrical component; the chip is a hybrid memory/storage chip using memristors (instead of platters or capacitors). Because of its nature it demands a

They're one of the largest, most secretive data brokers out there. That's why. A lot of data passes through them and out to many other parties.

Interesting, they discuss both Opt-Out and Removal of your information. They explain about the Opt-Out process, but mention nothing about how to get your information removed. Anyone have an idea on how to get your info removed or if the o

Don't forget that HN has CloudFlare caching enabled. It might not be vote suppression but cache freshness that prevents you from seeing the upvote immediately.

There is no supposition about tyranny here. It used to be that the GPLv2 allowed use of libraries in applications so long as any adjustments to the library contributed back to the project. This was fair and reasonable, even when working on

I don't use GPL libraries because of the tyrannical copy-left clause. If I want to GPL mine, then I'll make that choice. But I won't use a single library that'll force me to choose GPL—I'll just write/find a re

Lots of these themes include 3 menus. And Wordpress menus are notoriously query heavy. That's why a lot of sites have caching—not because the page is large, but because the menus take so long to load.

Irrelevant how? I doubt BlueHost, HostGator, Dreamhost, etc, and on and on will have implemented HHVM as their core PHP offering by then. Most web hosts still have PHP 5.3 installed, and even the PHP 5.4 I've used on Media Temple'

Good news, any idea which version this will be included in? I know PHP 5.6 is already in beta, so I'd assume this'll be PHP 5.7, but this is really good news. We have some sites that are just begging for an actual 10-30% increase

It would be so different I'm sure that it has a chance to succeed, but it wouldn't necessarily be easy to get started. I'm thinking mainly about the difficulty in forming contacts, etc.
