Hoooo memories... I started programming in Basic on an Apple IIc. Great machine, built like a tank and so cute with its squared monochrome display. I should by one on Ebay for the fun :)

You suggest a remote cofounder, you could also try to find one cofounder outside of Spain (there's a lot of potentials cofounders in EU ;)

From my experience, in France, having someone savvy to enter it's credit card data on a website that is not Paypal or a known bank is hard. Trust issues.

Let's do some basic math. Let's say that I rent two redundant dedicated servers that : - are each used at about 80% - are each equivalent of about 100 cloudlets - cost each $ 60 / month If I want to switch to Jelastic, that's 14 x 100 x

Pricing is not clear. From an official blog post, that's ~ 14 $ / month / cloudlet (128 MB RAM; 200MHz CPU equiv). But what about the databases ? Pleaase give us a cost calculator!

The Lenovo ThinkPad X220 is really great, and it's also Ubuntu certified since a long time (10.10) so it should be okay with others distros.

Storage is cheap, but I delete about 1/3 of the photos : I don't want to have to mentally discard them when I browse an album later.

SmugMug for the edited photos and videos + two backups copies of the raw medias on HDD (one home, one on a family house). 2TB is low. Each time I go to a photo trip, I bring back almost 8Gb of raw photos.

It's not trendy, but I still love dedicated servers. You must invest time as a sysadmin (or hire a good freelance), but then you can cram so much more power per system... Or choose a Paas if you really don't want to get dirty with the low-l

There's a point, because if your sysadmin is competent, having access to the database of a webapp (webapp break-in) is much easier than being able to dump the server memory (OS break-in). You can go hardware with a cryptographic accelerator

Then I'll have to convince that collecting internally the data is a best practive (it is!) and that not doing it anyways is like night driving without lighting. I'm afraid pushing it as a competition would fail. It would so easy to cheat.

I really tried to accomodate the Apple keyboard mapping and to accept the long list of hardware tweakings for a proper use; then I got bored and I decided that a Lenovo X220 was a better programmer choice.

I do not beleive in "automated security review". It gives a false sense of what security is.

I would build my own computer. I'm reading 'The Elements of Computing Systems" and I started the exercices : it's really rewarding. Then I'll build a REAL computer with a VHDL programmable chip. Then I'll design my own VM, my own compiler..

I should have specified that the solution is in the $19-$499/month, so it mainly targets the small to medium companies (where I beleive the IT guy can still propose solutions). Big corporations will buy a licence from the non-Saas companies
