I was considering doing something like this for a site I made one weekend for myself and my friends: limited spots. 5$ a spot per year, 1000 spots only. In the end I couldn't be bothered setting up the payments because it was not really wor

I gathered you must have had some bad experiences with your own doctors. That's unfortunate. There are drug guidelines for a reason: they are evidence based on the current literature. Of course they follow the path with the most evidence be

I'm all for patient heal thyself. But, I think you should tone down the conspiracy theory style of your site. Doctors aren't all bad - far from it. The medical profession is trying to help, but in an evidence based way. You may not agree, b

Definitely. I usually up the volume of short intervals (tabata) when doing this type of work - less time training than usual and more metabolic effect.

I wonder if the converse may be more true: that by eating you extend your sleep cycle for longer. I find if having to do multiple long nights, no matter how fit I am I have to eat to keep up energy. I find the more tired, the more sugary st

Case in point though: spring source had "community" builds + special builds for customers, and the community builds + documentation were crippled somewhat. I know a lot of commercial open source users (who weren't paying) were disappointed

Does anyone have familiarity with these types of online "health/fitness" trackers? I'd love to know more about the inner workings - whether they are profitable, and what their revenue sources are.

That hasn't worked well for too many people. Most OS businesses that haven't failed tend to dual license, and cripple the installation/documentation(technical or product) in some way for the OS version.

Umm... just think about what you have said, and how amazon has a search button and you'll realise they know more about intent than google.

I am a big believer that everyone's thinking the same thing at roughly the same time. My partner and I tend to come up with great ideas, and then 2-3 years later it appears on the market executed well. We are continually saying "I told you

I live in a place with a very good public health care system. I always go private so I can choose my doctors and get the best care. I pay medical insurance for this privilege by choice.

I've always wondered, what's the biggest application built on rails? Pre 1.0 I developed one (50kloc) that crumbled when wielding my newly found weapon of metaprogramming.

You are luckier than us - some of our customers machines are so locked down that they can't even change the date let alone install firefox. We even tried using portable apps on a usb stick, no luck there either! Arrgh.

If java has one thing going for it, it's the tooling. Refactoring, eclipses compile errors as you type + quick fixes etc are the only reason to stay in java. If you program like you are suggesting you lose the only reason to use java, and h

That's a pretty interesting position. So basically you are saying someone can take the best of all the articles on the web, without any payment (or even a link), put ads all over it, and the person who wrote the article doesn't get anything

Yes, but if they are adding nothing to the content but ad's, is that fair use?

I've always found it quite strange that the people who make the money off an article (assuming diggs/reddits etc are generating revenue) are those who merely aggregate content and submit it to these sites. They add nothing to the equation.

Not only that, but their customer service is terrible. They overcharged me a few hundred dollars and I haven't heard back since I notified them a week or so ago. It's not really worth my time chasing it, but it's pretty terrible service.

Listening to "statistics" from people who quote percentages is really dangerous. Percentages are really, really, easy to lie with. And for people who only quote percentages, this is usually what they are trying to do. Spin.
