Does anyone have an example of a better education system? I remember being kept in line with the curriculum until the point I realised I could learn easier myself - has anyone experienced a "good" school? Where does one find such a place?

As for success, it was introduced to me by a very successful serial technology entrepreneur, investor & advisor with at least one personal 200M exit, and multiple smaller or similar size. I guess we will agree to disagree on the ethics.

1. How can you be sure someone wants to pay for something unless they bring out their credit card? I would love to know a better way. 2. Is it unethical to sell a product that isn't right for the market, and promote half truths like most ad

Yeah. Your way wastes everyones time as the product isn't right from the start and it's harder to build a great business, as you don't know if you'll ever get paid. Everyone to their own though. I'd rather be sure.

When I said "fake sell" I was meaning using it to prove a market. The process is as follows: 1. Create mockup/demo/realistic brochure/non-functional physical prototype 2. Go to your target market. Count number of targets 3. Try to sell them

When I say fake sell I mean do the transaction then provide a refund. In my opinion it's the ethical thing to do, not just for you but for your users. Why bother creating a product if it's never going to get traction in the market? You won'

It will be worth your time. Its kind of like Stephen Key's approach, but more for technology/products. Often times first thing I want to do is jump into code, and it's the last thing you should be doing. Proving the market is critical, and

For non-americans, what happened a month ago (see supertracker) that caused what looks like the start of a landslide for obama. Was it palin?

There are some great companies built without a product. Often times you can fake sell before a product exists and give a refund to prove that a market exists before development. Otherwise all your product dev can be wasted. I know successfu

Great news. Selling isn't actually hard, but it's scary especially as most of us on this site have below par selling skills. Metaphorically, "Knocking on the door" is the hard part.

Well, if you don't make money it's not a business, its a hobby in my opinion. I have hobbies that I put my time, effort and money into, but I certainly don't classify them as startups. Thousands do this for open source & freeware projec

When a couple of months work can be saved by doing a few phone calls or some "fake selling", prototypes are by far the worst way of doing things. Understanding whether your customers will pay is critical for business success, and can often

You start with this: "Most ideas suck. Those ideas are worthless. A few ideas are very valuable. Those ideas are the things that change the world. Just because all the ideas in your network are worthless, doesn't mean all ideas are worthles

Surprised no one has said it, but find an IP lawyer who specialises in negotiations. Seriously, a few $$$$ now could save you heaps. I did the same thing (worldwide exclusivity) when I was young and naive, and there were no "minimum sales"

Can you name a few example ideas that changed the world, that would have been valuable without execution?
535.
▲

Most people never action their idea because they are scared of being wrong. Execution is like a rollercoaster of fail & adjust cycles, which transform your idea into money. The original idea if not taken on the failcoaster is worthless.

Honestly, has YC actually been shown to consistently add value? I thought the jury was out on that, until we get stats about success rates. Given how many companies they fund, how much time do they actually spend with each company? How do t
