How’s cyber bullying for you? Just to be clear, your comment isn’t about Amazon policies or the appropriate response. Your comment is a personal attack on me. Does that make you feel superior or bigger than me? Good luck to you in real life

I don’t think this is black and white between owners and workers. Corporate America is much more complicated. The owner and worker narrative sounds like communist take. I’m an American who values individualism and hard work. I fundamentally

How is a company the same as an individual? How do you compare risk the company takes when investing in research, marketing, hiring, etc to a person going to medical school? This is an apples and oranges comparison at best. If companies wer

But you can have it both ways. If I can reasonably control what happens on my platform in country A, I will. If I cannot do so in country B, then I won’t. Another country could be fully authoritarian. If I can’t do X in China but I can do i

I don’t see Apple pushing their web moral views. They sell to a particular audience. In the US, they cater to a specific audience and want to be careful with how that segment views Apple on particular social or political issues. You or I do

Yes, exactly the latter. Our build system actually blocked any kind of network call to external services. Every dependency and transitive dependency was hosted in house.

I’m going to off on a tangent here, but what I find amusing is the theater circus the American Congress has been putting on with CEOs of big tech and social media companies. Suddenly these people care about misinformation? Really? I mean, t

This comes off as overly dramatic fear mongering. We’ve moved on from big oil being the bogey man and source of our problems to Amazon and big tech. Amazon has a detection system to figure out if you are getting tired. Sounds great to me. I

At my last company we had our own copy of every dependency we used, sometimes multiple versions. For a while every dependency had to get approved (someone would literally look at the license and verify it’s in our company’s approved list of

Which local businesses does Amazon destroy? That’s a pretty wild accusation. I just visited several places last year before COVID. Pretty much all the businesses that hire warehouse skilled workers are still there. As a matter of fact, most

I don’t think op was stating developer productivity completely relies on reloading changes, but developer experience does matter. Many folks end up working with legacy code bases that don’t have clean code, weren’t designed with testability

I first used Spring while doing an internship in 2007. I remember writing about bunch of XML bean configuration and wondering.... why??? Sounds like the ecosystem didn’t get much better.

I took a leave of absence for a year. I went to India for 3 months in 2016, then Pakistan for another 3 months, followed by Afghanistan for 1 month. Afghan and Pakistani people are by far the friendliest among any nationality. I ignorantly

I only use Python when it’s something quick and dirty. It’s very rare that I use Python for anything production. I think it’s a neat language overall. All the work I did to learn ML was in Python, and so it’s been immensely valuable to me.

In my area, Uber is $7-10 to go within a mile or two. A 17 minute trip to the office is $28 one way, or $56 round trip. If I use Uber 5 times to get to the office, that’s basically more than a lease payment on an entry sedan and the insuran

I play games on a PS5 and some PC games. I personally don’t want to play on Stadia — buying games at full price with no guarantee they don’t cancel the service isn’t enticing to me. I did try it out, and the Stadia Pro offering wasn’t bad a

I don’t agree. The President was just caught red handed asking Georgia to make up votes for him, and he caused an attack on the US Congress. People are actually dead because of the things he said — inciting an overthrow of the government. E
