1. Off day = vacation day = PTO (paid time off)? or 2. You're not firing on all cylinders and tired and can't get going and feeling unproductive? Either way, you cannot be productive 100% of the time. Take it easy.

I think everyone has access to full shop manuals in soft copy these days. I imagine it's a lot like writing code. You remember how to write a for loop (oil change? a brakes?) but have to look up API docs for more esoteric functions (a

For context, I work on my car a bit, and the shop manual for it is hundreds of pages (thousands?). Now scale it up to a factory, maybe without manuals. Disassemble, crate it, assemble it 5000 miles away. Based on my software experience, I c

Super interesting: > The largest, the 50,000-ton forging presses, were behemoths: each was the size of a ten-story building, and could exert enough force to lift an entire battleship. The 35,000-ton forging presses weren’t much smaller.

You still need need a public end point to host your tunnel. Is an internet facing bastion host with ssh not what you're looking for?

I dont get it. Study after study seems to indicate that remote work is more efficient all around. What is it that makes management so bearish towards remote? When Microsoft "lost the mobile war" everybody was in the office still,

Been writing elisp in Emacs for a couple of years now. Emacs is an amazing piece of software and its heyday lisp was revolutionary. These days though I don’t see what it offers over other general purpose languages.

Do you mind sharing what an equivalent relatively modern equiavalent would be? I would love a small portable dumb terminal with a keyboard. It runs Android apps too, right?

I remember coveting the librettos! And then the slim sony laptops. These days I dont think there’s anything better than a MacBook Air though. What’s the use case for one of these? Data centers?

Completely agree with you. This is a strategy, like quiet firing, to make people go away. Rather than being up front, this is an underhanded way of making folks leave.

Customer service or sales people like that are usually at the lowest point on the totem pole. It’s likely that they have zero leeway, either you’re gonna pay exorbitantly or you’re out. It’s an institutional problem.

I've been using dropbox to sync my org docs and has worked remarkably well. I once tried using synching and that resulted in almost immediate conflicts. This is not my area of expertise, but if I had to guess it's because dropbox
