At times I wonder if the EU decided that fines were the way to get a portion of the pie of all the American tech giants. They seem to be very effective at transferring the wealth periodically

The worst part of AWS outages is that their status page is always green. It's OK to fail but it's not OK to hide the failure and expect all the customers to stumble upon the failure especially for a company as big as AWS. Not OK!

If anyone is starting a new project, I'd recommend looking into Apache Pulsar [0]. It has all the good parts of Kafka with a lot more features useful when scaling 0: https://pulsar.apache.org/

I agree with a caveat: to actually produce things, sometimes meetings are not an impediment, they're vital. They're the quickest way to come to a consensus and share exceptions during design quickly

One worry I have is with sensitive data e.g. HIPAA protected information. How do you guarantee that the data is safe at rest. Are there encryption at rest options? With online-first applications, you can just expire the sessions after x min

The whole bible is about liberation from slavery (of sin) and quite clear about being against slavery (physical). Read of Israel's salvation from Egyptian slavery? Joseph? Limits on slavery (7 year max) because people were too stubborn
