I think it's telling that the author's remorse was for being mean to a fellow opinion writer, as opposed to fomenting a culture of guilty until proven innocent

This post seems pretty focused on the How of building AI products, but personally I think that whether or not an "AI product" succeeds or fails mostly wont come down to differentiation / cost / speed / model customi

I don't see any residential buildings in that maps link, nor am I able to find any news articles indicating anyone being evicted. Do you have a source or are you just spreading rumors?

> Advertiser-funded social networks will always have incentives that are misaligned with users. That's fair, and to clarify I am not saying that users have complete control. My point is just that looking back on the last 7(!) years

"We want people to have choice and agency" I think this fundamentally misdiagnoses the root of the issue, post 2016-election. People have plenty control over what content they see (via follows, blocks, hides, downvotes etc), and

I think in practice most of these techniques are useless (or worse, confer a false sense of precision) because they require so many nuanced judgement calls that they become little more than a way to launder biases.

Oh sorry, I don't mean replacing the documents entirely. what I've seen is loom videos replacing sections of those documents (where in the past you would have expected screenshots + text to explain decisions or a design). To me, t

Like I said, there are definitely cases where showing is easier than telling, and bug reports often fall into that category. But as an alternative to more durable documents (design explorations, PRDs, etc), I often find that docs are more t

I don't feel like it's necessary to take sides on this one - seems like Loom gave you some signal on what company culture looked like on the inside, and you decided it wasn't a good match. Seems like a positive interaction&#x

Personally, I'm not 100% sure those videos are a net benefit for teams. It definitely reduces the effort required by the person creating the video, but comes at the expense of requiring more effort from the people consuming the content

Definitely agree, but I don't think most of what we see scrolling Twitter is clearly on one side or the other. I also think "doing something" is a spectrum as well, and making a conscious choosing to ignore something is a val

Oh that's cool - does it work for business users on OSX? I feel like the fall of Thinkpads was the final nail in the coffin. We tried running a dedicated windows machine that people could remote into, but it was just too much friction.

Also important to note that it's not as simple as having a whitelist of domains that are exempt, because at Facebook scale that immediately becomes an avenue for accusations of bias (see all of the noise around the twitter files).
