Plenty of cryptos have real cash flows. Even ETH has cash flows in terms of both staking and fees paid to the network.

IMO the bigger scam here was not Anchor but Stablegains. They gave magnitudes more everyday people access to the Anchor scam who had no idea what they were getting in to. For the people who actually went through the process of opening a Coi

Definitely agree, though I think the point of this thread is we don’t know the “true cost” of A/B testing in terms of long-term lost user engagement. Have we done an A/B test for A/B testing where we test A/B testing…

Well, I can think of a few reasons: facilitating transactions with other parties on the permissionless network, promoting public verifiability of your system, utilizing the tools and utilities available for public blockchains, requiring you

I still reminisce about the first big project I ever built. As an intern I was told high level what to do and given two years alone in a room working eight hours a day to figure out how to build it, zero guidance from anyone. I didn’t reall

Lots of big players slowly moving away from tether and that’s putting sell pressure. Unlike USDC or DAI, there’s no 1:1 redeemability to dollars for your average joe, so it requires a few key market makers who have access to tether redempti

The author didn’t fail all of the cheating students. Did you read to the end? Many of them ended up with an A+. That’s in fact the whole point of the article, to say that more engaging course material reduces cheating.

Serious software bugs and hacks are not exclusive to smart contracts. Just look at the Equifax hack or the 737 Max tragedies. If you only look at the worst outcomes of a system of course you’re going to assume it’s all worthless, but that’s

Yes, Vitalik has proposed calling smart contracts “persistent scripts” instead. It’s the trustless execution on-chain that makes them unique to other programs. Whether or not they existed in other forms doesn’t change the argument that they

Bitcoin has been around 13 years, but smart contracts only 7, and DeFi only around 4 years. Institutional-quality MPC wallets have been around less than two years.

Assuming that organizations did want to do this, I would argue that a public blockchain is the most technically suitable solution. I can write up and deploy a new token contract in a few hours and it will be instantly tradable with thousand

This is one use of crypto that I really want to come to fruition. Imagine being able to trade your Delta Skymiles for Kohl’s Cash on Uniswap instantly and for 30bps in fees. It would finally make all these random rewards programs worthwhile

Generally for loans if the value of the collateral falls below the margin threshold (say 110%) then the collateral will be sold to make sure the lender has no losses. So it’s very low risk unless Bitcoin goes to zero instantly. Additionally

Stablegains was tied 100% to Anchor yields, and Anchor imploded. That said, targeting 5% APR is magnitudes more realistic than 15% APR. Pebble is able to do this through overcollateralized lending of USDC. It’s not risk-free, but it’s a pre

On the signing side it sounds like you’re talking about a multi-sig or a threshold wallet. Gnosis Safe is pretty popular there. Dispute resolution is an unsolved problem in crypto but the leading project there is probably Kleros.

This actually sounds like a good use for smart contracts if we switch to a CBDC. Basically you pass your transaction through whatever state’s contract and it will automatically do the tax withholding for you.
