Unavoidable but you can minimize it by not using the new & trendy stuff because that has too much churn. PHP is a good pick to avoid that, but you need to make sure not to fall behind on too many major versions (note in PHP a major vers

We are back to the bouncer economy, just like when bouncers are chasing you with free entrance tickets to the nightclub for a "few" drinks (salty "free lunch" at the saloon in the old days), browser vendors are chasing y

That is for spring-webflux, is that a typical spring set up for web today? I haven’t coded spring for a few years now, but I was thinking about the traditional spring setup that most use and that is comparable. You can of course use Python

PHP is usually easier to scale because it just a matter of how many webservers. e.g. apache or nginx, you choose to deploy. This also possible with other platforms, but can be a bit trickier to get right. For large PHP setups it is usually

Much better comparison for typical web load, what this discussion is about. https://www.techempower.com/benchmarks/#section=data-r20&hw=... Java wins as expected, but a typical setup with Spring versus the typical

Nano is a great little editor, however one thing I have not figured out yet is to achieve a true cross platform .nanorc file when dealing with paths, windows vs posix, things like include directives and backup dir.

You should learn how to code in an simple editor and understand how everything is connected, e.g edit -> build -> run. When you understand that you can start using an IDE. Same as with a calculator or any other advanced tool, i.e lea

PHP has types where it matters, input and output to functions (your api contract), but still have the good parts of a dynamic language. And you can add types as you go. Combined with an IDE like PhpStorm it is easy to refactor. You can code

Once in my career I was a frontend architect, but since then I have become a reactionary when it comes to view rendering, I always opt for server side rendering and when needed add some dynamic rendering with JavaScript for that page only.

Great comment. Specialization led to splitting teams in frontend and backend teams, thus these teams started develop different coding culture & solutions, like separate build steps and whatnots. No longer could one team finish a feature

I agree with the author that errdefer seems like the winning feature of zig. Proper error handling is the most important part of any language or system. Unfortunately most common languages does not prioritize this. As a contractor I have

Great article. I mostly do PHP, PHP has support for FFI and I have some private projects where I call C libraries directly over FFI. I have been thinking of using zig to implement my own C libraries when needed. Zig looks like a more sane a

Sure, but your comment didn't make much sense if switching to an iPad was an improvement in regards to hostility, logically that would mean that Windows should behave just like an iPad, i.e. no control. What Windows "suffers"

Not so sure, the future of the computer is being a client on a corporate controlled network. TPM is necessary to allow or ban clients on such network.

Does the user have any control of the operating system on an iPad? Why should Windows hardware be any different? You are making a contradictory argument. What has happened is that the computer has changed, it is no longer the big old tower

Yes, Windows 10 is very I/O dependent, it will not be a pleasant experience with a mechanical drive. Not sure if Windows 8 was too, I didn't use Windows 8 much (we all know why). If you can't afford a SSD drive, I recommend b

I have been thinking of using FTS5 with SQLite to search emails. Not close of 43 GB ofc, so I would probably not have any major performance problems, but still is FTS5 any good? Or should I look into other solutions?
