True, but they are somewhat different tools with different purposes, writing an operating system in Python is a bad idea and doing web in C is cumbersome. Thus I wouldn't blame Python if I used it for something it wasn't designed

Perhaps ecosystem is a better word than community. How npm works and the policies by company behind it. PHP composer is much more sane than npm. And all the different package controversies like leftpad. Lots of bogus and malware packages.

TypeScript is nice, the nodejs community is not. It is a shame that such a nice language as TypeScript is stuck in such horrible community.

And don't forget the most important part - incompetent programmers. It is we, the programmers, who writes all that code that that ends up as steaming pile of garbage. We can't blame others on that one. We need to become better wit

Namespaces in PHP are totally fake, they are not real as it is in C++, where you can actually store data within them. In PHP the namespace is just a name added to every class construct and nothing else. This is basically class MyThing

What tools? What server language today except PHP (and its forks) is actually designed for the web and works as the web was intended?

Technology changes behaviour and therefore society, "don't use it" is not an option in many cases, for instance in the old days it was common pay bills by filling out forms attached to a bill and then snail mail or walk into

I wish more languages had an abstraction layer above namespaces, classes & interfaces, something like Java modules, to help organize a large monolith. Instead of creating isolation over an network interface we add an abstraction to achi

Thanks for the tip on EarlyOOM. Swap file is at least easier to handle than swap partition. Some run their Linux without swap at all, however I think that is better for a server setup where you run a small set of specific set of binaries,

I run at 1xRAM. Seems that my problems went away after that. Ubuntu by default sets it to 2GB even if you have something like 16GB RAM. Swap file can then fill up pretty quickly.

On my personal linux workstation I experienced multiple times that I couldn't ssh into it after the desktop froze, it was due to too small swap file.

No, communism is a political system that normally has the economic system of planned economy, thus when you see a comparison between capitalism vs communism it is an apples to oranges comparison. Under Soviet communism you couldn’t do what

I would only attribute 3) & 4) to capitalism. 1) is a political right but capitalism is an economic system so it doesn’t really say anything about that. 5) is market economy and with 2) you get a free market economy

Classic LAMP stack with P as in PHP, preferably with Server Side Rendering. Still to this day nothing beats it even if you go barebones because everything you need is included out of the box.

PHP in 2022 has much going for it, the only dark clouds on the horizon is the increasing framework oligarchy within the PHP community, which may reduce innovation and foster a "one size fits all" culture.

PHP is not perfectly fine as a procedural language. There are several important features missing, like Function autoloading, without it you need to come up with a reliable way to require dependencies. This usually differs from project to pr
