I still think that a lot of the fuss is because people don't realise you can just hit the windows key and start typing to search in Win8. It's much quicker than using a menu.

"Brainstorming sessions and equivalent ideation techniques like Creative Problem Solving have an ever-growing body of evidence showing them to be an ineffective way to generate good ideas." Any links?

If the code is inside the script tag, it has to be downloaded with each page. If it's a separate file, it only has to be downloaded once, when the first page is loaded.

... as a service! But seriously, isn't this how Groupon is supposed to work? Offer a stupid discount, protected by a limited supply in order to manufacture demand. I'm not sure why this is top of HN?

I'd be interested to hear more on this. At the minute I'm not sure what dire circumstances you mean, or how having a leader implies a threat of war. It seems like a lot of what you wrote could be applied to any leader of any natio

The Queen is more than just an actor. Think of how you'd hire a lawyer to speak for you if you had to appear in court. It is necessary to hire a trained expert in collating and co-ordinating information from the relevant sources and co

They showed it to us at Primary school too. I'm from south Sheffield though so the accents sounded quite posh to us :-)I do remember being freaked out by any loud noises in town for a few months afterwards. I watched it again a couple

I really like the idea of an Ubuntu phone, but the desktop thing is just weird. I really can't see a use-case for it. Aside from a drastic increase in the chances of dropping my entire computing resources in a toilet, or leaving them i

I'd prefer to hire a nice person. Training nice people to be good at something is easier than training skilled people to be nice :D

Maybe I'm in a minority, but I genuinely don't care about seeing the ads. I'd never pay for them to be turned off, unless perhaps if it was a small site or community that I wanted to help out / donate to. Oh, and the audio ads in Spotify, I

But surely they don't make $49 per user per year on ads? It looks like they're over-charging on the paid accounts to cover the costs of the free accounts. Especially the 1TB is free, 2TB is $500 deal. And it seems that after proving people

The redesign looks awesome, but who's going to pay a recurring $49 just to remove ads? Can't help but think their money men might be about to screw this up. Hope not, love Flickr :-s
